I have heard of people tampering with the z button. I think there is a small piece of plastic some people either break or remove internally, that makes it easier to bump/more responsive. You might can look up a YouTube tutorial that is helpful :)

I used to have a lot of 3rd party controllers (for guests and younger siblings to use) each and every z button either collapsed in on itself, or broke off completely, but surprisingly still worked. Maybe just repetitive use will loosing things up.

Open it up (get some triwing screwdrivers), remove plastic button, and use some pliers to pull out the metal strip. The switch under the purple button is strong enough to push the button out. I did this a few months ago and my controller still works perfectly, but as always modding is done at your own risk.
