How do I approach with Ike?

I went to my first Project M tournament today and I did relatively well, but I lost to a pretty decent Sheik.
Now, let me just say, it wasn't one sided, when I got in on the Sheik player I did rather well. But it was extremely difficult for me to get in and I seemed to be constantly punished for trying to get in because I was too predictable. The guy said that I approach with Ike in the air too much and it's easy to punish me in that way due to how predictable I was. It seems my approach is way too linear to be effective, so I'm just wondering on how to approach/mix up with Ike and also some advice on the Sheik matchup would be nice.

Side B, my friend. You should be using Side B for most of your approaches, but not always JC'ing it into an aerial.

Instead try doing an Usmash out of Side B, or JC wavedashing backward and see what he does, and if he takes the bait punish him with a grab, a well spaced Nair, Fair, or Bair, Fsmash, Usmash.

JC grabs and QD attack are also good mix-ups. While Sethlon taught us how wary one must be of crouch cancelling, conditioning your opponent to expect a CC'able attack whenever you Side-B is a great way to get some grabs.

The single most important thing is to keep your opponent guessing when it comes to Ike. Out of QD, Ike can QD attack, grab, Usmash, empty hop, SHFFL, full hop over, Wavedash, or even jump out and then immediately counter for the single most satisfying response to a laser camping Falco I've ever executed. Versatility is what separates good players from great, and you have many options. Make use of them.

ike is just like the other fire emblem characters; play a tight neutral game into grabs.
