How devoted are you to the character(s) you support?

I've been in Smashboards for a while, but I've mostly been in the Brawl Character forum, and I've observed many things. One of them is that some people want characters in simply because they...well.. they just ARE that character, and like them, or people don't want a character because of the same reason, except that they dislike them.

So I'm just curious: do you want certain characters just because you like them, or do you TRULY believe that he/she/it will be in Brawl?

Months after Brawl is released, I don't think the characters will even matter anymore! I don't like Pokemon, and I usually don't play Metroid mainly because I suck, but Pikachu and Samus are my mains.

There are characters that I don't want to see in Brawl, like Lucario and Bowser Jr., but if I like how they are in Brawl, I play as them. There are characters like Ridley and Krystal that I want in Brawl, but if they just suck, I'll use them less often.

But how about you? If the characters you want in Brawl aren't really that good, would you still use them often? If you KNEW that the character you support will suck in Brawl, would you still support him now? Do you think that the character selection will even matter months and years after Brawl comes out?

if yes: When I 1st heard about Snake being the 3rd party and the thing about more 3rd party other then Snake. I knew Sonic would get a High chance at that spot. When he was confirmed not too long ago, I litteraly had a smile on my face the whole day. Nothing could make me frown on that day, nothing. if i failed a big exam that wouldn't have an effect on me still. I actually heard Sonic is a good character to use. So i don't have to worry too much of the sucking part. And for the months & years. Probably not, because by then all the characters will be considered natural into the game.

What if Lucario wasn't that good as you expected? Would you still play as him?

I highly support Krystal/ Midna SOLO/ a hand full of pokemon that I wont name (some Lucario fan-boy is bond to bash them)/ Ridley/ Ashley/ CLASSIC Megaman (screw all the others) and Marina lightyear.

And yes, I will play as any of the characters I support nomatter how good/ bad they turn out in brawl. You should support characters because you like them and want to play as them. . . . not just because you want more high T characters imo.

Well I really want Marth in Brawl...and I haven't given up hope that he will be in. And like I've said in the "Anti-Marth" thread. I don't care if Marth is incredibly nerfed, I'll still play him because I find his character cool and fun to play as regardless of his high-tier rating. If Marth were low tier I'd still play as him, and THAT is how devoted I am to the character I support : )

First: of course the characters matter! They're the whole point of the game, for crying out loud - bringing together beloved characters from across Nintendo's games for a single, unique fighting game.

As for your question, your post is pretty confusing and indistinct about it, but I think you're mixing up different aspects of character support. Namely, supporting them because you want to play as them, supporting them because you like the character, and supporting them because you believe they deserve to be in the game. Theres nothing wrong with any of those, nor any way each different motivation is inherently less devoted to the characters than the other.

For instance, I supported Ike because of the second mainly - I like him. I also wish to play as him, but since he turned out to have a fighting style I generally dislike (slow), I'll probably play less as him than as several other characters. That doesn't make me any less happy that hes in, nor any less "devoted" to him. The same can be said of Isaac, Krystal, Midna, Mega Man, and Diddy - depending on if I like their play style (and on if some of them make it at all, of course), I may play as them often or little, but regardless I definitely want to see them in the game.

I support King K Rool mostly because of the third reason - I feel he deserves to be in the game. I have no intention of using him much, if at all, even if he is in the game, but I'll still be quite happy if he is.

I support Sonic and Marth for all three reasons. I fully intend to play as them quite often, because I've been looking forward to it, and it was one of the reasons I supported them.

In none of this does how good the characters wind up being factor. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less about the tier lists in any of the SSB games - I'm not a competitive person or player, and have no intentions on becoming one. I'll play as characters I want to play as and characters whose fighting style I like, regardless of how good or bad they are competitively.

Yeah, I know where E and W are ...but you know how that could have been interpreted...

And yes, I would still use Lucario even if it was bottom tier...it would be my low/bottom tier main...and my high/top: MK/Pit...I'm kinda liking what KumaOso has to say...I'd try to be the Gimpyfish of Lucario users...

However, the main reason I want Isaac to be playable is opinion. He does, very much so, deserve to make it, though!

my in game name is "Holy" and Kid Icarus is one of my favorite games for the NES, and the GB one is alright too.

I'm a fan of the Holy theme, and I would play Pit no matter what.

After a few years I'll probably main someone else, but Pit will always be one of my best chars. (for melee, I mained Fox first, then switched to Roy, Jiggs then Marth, but I still Fox alot)

Don't think I'm overly devoted to a specific character, as I'm happy with whatever Sakurai chooses to put in Brawl, so anything is perfectly fine with me.

Although my top favorites have to be Ridley, Takamaru, and Skapon. As for the newcomers? Definitely Lucas and Snake.

I will never play as a character I don't like, no matter how high their tier.

However, as much as I love characters like Falco, Luigi, Yoshi, Link, etc., if I don't like the way they play, I won't play as them. That has nothing to do with tiers, just enjoyability.

Yoshi is one of my favorite characters. In any Mario Kart, Party, sports title, any game he's playable in, I use him (well, him or Toad, but Toad has been falling out of the spotlight lately), but in SSB, I find him so unfun to use that I never play as him. It's kind of sad.

The only characters I want in are ones who deserve the spots. So, yeah. Personally, I don't feel 3rd parties deserve it, but obviously they will be in. Those are the only exception I think to those I want to be in and those that will be in.

I support diddy 1000% not just because i like him but on the snes DKC was the first game i played and it was hella fun. hes my fave nintendo character and I Use diddy in mario strikers and Mario cart. Ive been in the diddy thread since i joined in July non stop i still post in that thread... I love finding info about him... I myself am a person to support the character because I like them.

If you were to look at my signature, you could see that I am a Ashley supporter. I would support her if she was the worst character, most hated character, or anything. You name it, I guarantee you I will continue to support her until the day comes that she is or is not in this game.

I would also still play as her, regardless of anything, she would without a doubt become my main, that's how dedicated I am towards my character.

So why am I so dedicated towards her, why do I want her in so bad? What makes her so special to me as a character that I would want her in more than anyone else you ask?

Well for one, yes, I do like her, she is without a doubt my favorite candidate for brawl. I also however believe she stands quite a chance of making it in, this is not a debate thread so I will not go into detail. Lastly, I believe she deserves to be in. She would certainly be another unique character added to to the roster of Brawl, and I believe would be incredibly fun to play as. And isn't that the point of the game? For entertainment?

I strongly support Midna & wolf link, Ac rep and Vivian(paper mario 2) because I really believe they would be great in brawl.

The others Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Lucario, Bomberman, Mallow and stafy I also feel strongly about.

I also like them alot and they all would add something unique to brawl!

I strongly support Black Mage and if Black Mage made it into brawl, which he actually might considering his/her secret inclusion in mario hoops 3-on-3 and that he/she debuted on the NES, no matter if he/she sucked I'd still use him/her all the time.

But obviously, when the entire character roster is revealed, there won't be a single person here that will be completely satisfied.

Most of us will be happy that some characters we supported are in, but also disappointed that some of the ones we did support didn't make it.

What if you were just COMPLETELY unsatisfied with the roster? Anything could change. We could get completely unexpected characters that no one previously wanted (Pokemon Trainer) and they'll cut characters that many people did want. (Little Mac...)

If a character gets in that you didn't think deserve it, but yet s/he has an amazing and original moveset... would you care?
