When I'm playing for glory, I usually get decent-average players. But usually, I get that one good player who can use their character very well. I usually, I can manage against most of these people. But when it comes to characters like :4link:,:4littlemac:,and:4sonic:, it becomes a complete nightmare for me, and I end up getting destroyed.
When I face :4link:s, I find it very hard to get past his protective barrier of projectiles, and his fast jabs. Of course I find it the hardest to face him with :4bowser:, since he can be easily walled out with projectiles.
:4littlemac:... Oh where do I begin with this guy . He gives me a a lot of trouble as well with his ridiculously fast speed, almost near hard-to-punish smash attacks, his tilts and jabs, and basically his very aggressive play style. I know that all it takes is a throw off stage and keep him in the air, but he's just so darn fast and powerful, that I just get so frustrated. Even with an aerial character like :4kirby:, I can't approach him properly.
:4sonic: are just so annoying for me, I find his spindash to be the hardest thing to punish. And it really irks me when people use it constantly. And I find his playstyle hard to figure out. I would really like some strategies or some tips on how to deal with these characters, so I can at least not get totally wrecked by these characters I find both annoying and hard to face.

:4link:- Get powershielding down for this MU, it's very important for it. if you dont have it down, practice it. Link is quite vulnerable to it. Don't sweat it if you are playing online. Harder to pull off on wifi.
:4littlemac:- Shamelessly camp platforms if you're in the lead and definitely when he has KO punch. never approach if you have the lead, force him to come to you in a disadvantageous position...like making him hop up on a platform. Mac is awful in the air, you want to force him offstage and on platforms as much as possible. And stay near the ledge as much as you can and stay in the middle of the stage as little as you can, it's dangerous for mac to be near the ledge there since he's sent offstage if he gets grabbed.

:4sonic:- Similar to mac in that you don't approach if you have the lead. Force him to. Sonic is great at keeping leads but not near as good at getting them back. If you approach when you have the lead you're playing right into what sonic likes to do...run. If he has the lead and is running away the whole time it's annoying AF.

Thanks for the detailed information! I'll be sure remember these tips!

:4wario2: is incredibly useful against these characters. His bike punishes rolls and goes through most of :4link:'s projectiles. His recovery allows you to edge-guard :4littlemac: with ease. If :4sonic: does spindash, you just need to press B and he'll go right inside your mouth. Obviously these techniques may not work on higher players, but they almost always works on braindead FG players.

Well, I don't really use :4wario2:, but I like the sound of using him against braindead:4sonic:and:4littlemac: . I like messing with scrubs sometimes. I did use him in the past, and I still pick him sometimes because he's so fun to use. Thanks for the suggestion!

I wouldnt recommend using bowser. I just dont find him usable. I dont like using big characters. They're easy targets.

Try to improve your reaction time, if its not already good

Bowser is my secondary character, Kirby is my first. I like to use Bowser and I can use him quite well, it's just the characters I mentioned that give me problems with all my mains in general. Sure, big characters can get combo-d easily, but they have a lot of power and defense to make up for it. But thanks for the advice, but this probably won't help if I am playing online when someone on the other end has terrible connection.

Bowser is fine. He's not great, but he's not bad either. He's a low-mid tier or mid tier character. His tournament results are not bad at all.
I totally agree with you, I have seen some tournament Bowsers like Lord Mix, and he does pretty well with him. He is mid-tier, according to the latest tier list.

:4link: talking time.

When it comes to fighting the Hyrule Hero, it can be pretty annoying do deal with his ranged weapons and his heavy-hitting sword. A lot of his attacks can be telegraphed, especially his Forward and Up Smash, Down Air and Spin Attack. But because he appears slow does not mean he always IS slow: Link has a good chunk of attacks that are actually pretty fast or safe on shield, or in some cases, both. F-Air is quite possibly the best example of this: only 12 frames of landing lag and with correct spacing is very difficult to punish out of shield. F-Tilt is really disjointed, can kill at decent percents and is also pretty safe on shield if spaced correctly. Down Tilt to Up Air is a true combo at 90-110%, and Gale Boomerang up close can lead to some real good combos. That's all nice and dandy to know but you need a way to counteract it, correct? Well, firstly it would really help to practice perfect shielding. Reducing the shieldstun you take will make a lot of his attacks suddenly very unsafe (go figure). F-Air, despite sounding amazing, has 14 frames of startup and no autocancel window. That means if you know F-Air is going to be used, you can quickly get out of the way (because the startup on it practically guarantees there is very little it can true combo into) and counter with your own attack of your choice. Now for his projectiles, they can be...a pain. However Link is at his most vulnerable when he is standing still. Even "catch me" Links are still moving. Gale Boomerang has 27 frames of startup, which is crazy bad and makes his next choice of options fairly predictable. The absolute best way to counter Bombs is to catch them whenever possible: using them against Link for your own combos is already awesome enough, but if you must get rid of it and can't use it then at least he didn't get to use it. I can continue to give you examples on how to read Link, but honestly the best thing I can tell you is that Kirby and Bowser are pretty bad MUs for Link. Kirby already has trouble appraoching and Link is just hard to approach, while Bowser has trouble landing and is fairly easy to combo, both of which Link has the capability of taking advantage of. I can't tell you who to play though, so I at least hope my advice helped some.

Wow! Your advice will help a lot. Very well thought out. Thanks! You must be a really good Link main to have written all of this. Oh, and I have a question, aside from:4bowser: and:4kirby:'s MUs against :4link:, how does :4darkpit: fair against him? I use him as a pocket, but I am starting to consider him my 3rd main.

:4darkpit: certainly has a much better chance than the other two. Comboing him becomes a lot easier, Electroshock Arm and Guardian Orbitars help with projectiles (don't overuse G.O. though: it can become predictable), edgeguarding him becomes an absolute breeze. There are two things I would tell you to watch out for, though: Power of Flight has no hitbox at all, so if you fly straight up or in a very predictable way with it, you're practically asking for a mean D-Air meteor or any kind of edgeguard. Secondly, use Silver Bow only whenever Link is in the air: Hylian Shield will protect him otherwise and you will only be leaving yourself open to attack. If you were :4pit: I would tell you to simply angle them down and snipe his feet, but Pittoo cannot angle his arrows very well, so stick to using them when Link is offstage or in the air.

Ok, got it, thanks a lot!
