How are they going to deal with the translation for Alternate Costumes ?

I am french, and in my language, Wiifiit Trainer is called "Entraineuse Wiifiit" which is a female word
Villager is called in a male word "Villageois", the issues comes with their alternate costume !
I'm pretty sure other language like Spanish or Italian do the same, so how are they going to translate the Male Wiifit Trainer and The femal Villager since it's not a new character slot, it would just sound weird if the announcer said a female name for the male character we see on the screen. But they cannot change the game script just to ADD new sound and system for the annnoucer.

I know it's a little detail but I believe it's interessing to think about it, is there anyone who speak others language who know what I mean ?

Persons who only speak english won't find this so weird since they don't separate the male and female worlds.

This might sound like a silly question, but have you tried asking NoE themselves how they will handle it? It's not like you are asking for unrevealed content, so much as how they will handle naming and semantics of two existing characters.

What I was saying is you should consider contacting Nintendo of Europe. They might not be able to tell you what they will do for Smash Bros, but perhaps they can tell you how they handle situations like that and their policies on the matter.

To differentiate, it might include the gender symbols for languages that don't have gender specific names. Japanese is one of them.

They probably are aware of that and will have to implement name changes for some color/costume choices.

English and Japanese do not distinguish male and female names, while some European languages do.

I don't know if the game will be translated to Portuguese or not (NoE doesn't translate all games to Dutch, Portuguese and Russian, unlike Spansih, Italian, German and French), but the website has that language option and it shares the same problem as French and Spanish.

On the Portuguese page, they cleverly translated "Villager" to "Habitante" (meaning inhabitant, in this case, of a village), which is a gender neutral word (though, if used, a pronoun must indicate the gender). Wii Fit Trainer had her name translated to "Treinadora do Wii Fit" (meaning Wii Fit Trainer), which has the female word for trainer (most nouns related to people in Portuguese inflect in gender, so in this case, trainer can be translated to "treinador" or "trainadora" depending on the gender).

The only way I can see them circumventing that (assuming they can't alter the game itself) would be using a plural. So, for Portuguese, it would be "Treinadores do Wii Fit" meaning "Wii Fit Trainers". The word used is masculine, but can refer to a mixed gender group as well.
