Hookshot Retracting

I have seen some Link matches, and I've noticed that they are able to pull back their hookshot quickly. Is there any way to do this? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

yeah, the only thing i could think of would be since the running and standing grab have slightly different start up speeds. So what ur seeing might be a JC grab vs a running grab. Or im talking about something totally different :/

So the air hookshot comes in very fast when you land. Hmm, thats probably what I saw.

Pretty much, If I ever need to retract the Hookshot shot faster I toss a bomb in the air first so I lands on top of me in case I miss. If I do grab hold, I just throw them up to the bomb. Not handy at all, but it's fun. Another handy trick is to jump and grab at the same time that way, you do a standing grab while running (works best with Samus). Just press Z as soon as you Jump as if you were trying to do a wavedash.

Btw, that's a great move to use if someone tries to come at you with SHFFLS (like a marth spamming fair). They get confused as ****

You can boomerang cancel your taunts though :D

I heard you can boomerang cancel when you dash dance, but I've not confirmed that yet.

I believe they are playing tricks on you.
The only time you can retract it quickly is when you've shot the hook in midair at which point you land on the ground nand it retracts automatically.
I don't believe you can speed it up while firing it on the ground.

1:Throw the boomerang

2:Jump

3:Airdodge (with timing) followed by hookshot

4atch boomerang (this should retract the hookshot while in the air)

After catching the boomerang this leaves you the chance to midair jump. I'm sure this was figured out before. This can't help much, but it does what it's supposed to do.

Yeah, if you're dashdancing, you should be able to catch the boomerang WITHOUT stopping to catch it. It just reaches you and dissapears. Same thing for if you're grabbing someone at the time. Also if you are doing an attack. SHFFLing Nairs are useful for that, so you don't spend time catching it

That's a pretty cool trick. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan too. Does that trick work if you latch onto a wall? I know there's a glitch you could do with something like this if you have an older version of SSBM.

theres only one other possibility not mentioned. When you're recovering and you grab a wall you can very quickly retract it but thats again about it. nice tricks tho.

oh and samus does have the trick that if you're running and you grab she will pull it back instantly.
