Nice to meet you I'm new.

j.k.

Start out by watching high-level gameplay of your main character(s), learn all the basic mechanics (L-canceling, wavedashing) along with character specific mechanics, and then playing against other players.

Also keep an eye out for the name "Sethlon" and take notes.

The Brawl online servers are pretty crappy, but if you have no one else to play with in your area, I'm sure it's better than nothing.

Hard to say. They are all really solid, go with whichever one appeals to you the most.

Are the characters balanced for the most part? Cuz in allstars they are not balanced what so ever.

Project M has reached a point where every character is just as good as the next, but you have to invest time into your character to develop tactics to tackle the rest of the cast. It`s nowhere near like Melee where you had like 6 characters that you could use and dominate any character using the same strategy again and again.

Out of the four characters i use, who is the best?
Bowser and Ganon are both pretty bad, but Bowser is the ultimate noob slayer. Roy is still really new so his metagame will need some time to develop, and Ivy got lots of nerfs in 3.0, but she still seems pretty solid.

Are you kidding? I have dominated many underground tourneys with Bowser and Ganon.

I main Bowser, he's terrible at high level play, once he gets grabbed he should lose a stock, if not his opponent is bad (or doesn't know the MU).

I usually don't, if I was bad at avoiding grabs, I wouldn't main Bowser lol.
It`s like playing Falco but instead of not getting hit off of the stage, it`s not getting grabbed or hit off of the stage. In fact, getting hit off of the stage is usually the weakness of any character.

Except Falco actually has a good neutral game, in fact one of the best. Bowser has one of the worst, he relies on punishes and edge-guards, he is basically the personification of his opponents mistakes, you have no one to blame but yourself if you lose to Bowser. Not to mention he's big and slow which almost always equates to bad in Smash.

Don't feel bad about maining him, I don't. I acknowledge that he's a bad character, but he fits my play style the best and I regularly place in the top 3 in locals with him, but I have Mario, Sheik, and Marth as secondaries just in case I ever need them.

Yeah thanks for that *fist bumps you through the power of the Internet* I actually don't really have a main, the closest I had were him, Mario, Ness, and Ganondorf as those are the only ones I win consistently with, and even then I'm losing half the time to my brother's Ike.

Yeah Ike can be tough especially for Ganon, but I think Mario and Ness have the advantage against him, but it's not impossible for a competent Ike player that can deal with projectiles especially since he out ranges both of them.

That's true, especially he's figured out that all he needs to do over 50% is pop me in the air with dair, land quickly, and f-smash me to my doom lol.

Though yeah I dunno why but Ike is like my worst enemy. I guess I'll ask for help in the Ike thread here, maybe campaign for a less douchey down taunt (only in my wildest dreams does Ike not go "HRRRRRRRRGH" with Ragnell) lol

Best is typically an opinion, but what helps determine if a character is truly better than another are tier lists. But, since this particular version of Project M is so new, don't expect one new. Just stick with whoever you like the most. I love Roy to death, but I still think he's going to have a really tough time against a lot of the other fighters.

At least he actually has options now, he's probably still worse than Marth, but he's definitely much better than he was in Melee.

Oh most definitely better, but he still falls too fast when knocked off the ground in my opinion, I have an incredibly difficult time just getting back on-stage because of it, I still think his aerial game is great (now) but his spike is so damn touchy.
