Hesitant About Installing

So I was thinking about trying to install Project M on my Wii but i'm very anxious about it.
My Wii is stock or whatever the term is for it. It hasn't had anything custom done to it.
I want to play Project M and can acquire the SD Card easily but I am worried if it will have any adverse effects on my Wii; Crashes, corrupt data, turning it into a brick, things of that nature. Do I have anything to worry about and is there anything I could do, aside from not installing it, to avoid complications?

No. It cannot. Project M does not affect save data. Your Wii can potentially freeze/crash if you're careless when adding custom content, but even then that's harmless.
