I'm a rookie smasher. What things can i do to get better? I can only practice by myself because i have no one to play with. Any tips? Maybe some mentoring help? I play with Doc. I can do like, all the advanced techniques, but i have some trouble using them in game play, and thats with computers. So yeah, any help would be great.

if you haven't already check out the regional zones thing on this site. maybe you'll find some smashers who live near ya.

i practiced l-canceling by beating up cpu's so that might help ya

but yeah it'd probably be in your best interest to find someone to play with.

I think one of the best ways to improve is to play with someone who is better than you so you can learn a whole lot.

Well Everyone else has just said use the regional boards... and I agree with that, but If your not quite there yet. Practice Tech-skill, so like, Wave dashing, wall techs, wall jumps l-cancels, SHFFLing etc etc. Things like that. Apparently fighting level 4's are the best to fight against due to the way they DI. Good Luck, Ive been in this position and I still sort of am, only 2 other smashers in my region...

There's a lot to say about improvement. You can see some pretty good advice threads on the front page here; there's also some good stuff in the stickied threads. For more particular questions about match-ups/characters/etc., the character boards are a good reference, and the regional zones are good for finding locals to actually practice with.
