does anyone know the best ways to help space marth in the best way possible? i have been trying wavedahs backwards and then jab to a downtilt and also short hopping a fair backwards and it seems to work out fine in some cases but i was wondering otherways that i should use to keep my opponent at bay so to speak. help would really be appreciated with this since ive been trying really hard to improve my marth game and this is something that i really havent taken into consideration until recently.

also, would practicing spacing on a level 9 marth help because they are cheap and have the same range as me?

Spacing isn't really something you can practice and learn in one day. You just have to play against human opponents and learn what problems you have with spacing.

You'll know when you have good offensive spacing when you get more tippers. You'll know when you have good defensive spacing when you aren't grabbed as much.

i see. maybe im rushing a bit when a play and dont stop to think that if i am on the offensive i can screw up and get grabbed and such.

but if i were to follow a more hit and run tactic at higher percentages when i know id pretty much get killed by any high knockback move, what are some low lag combos that i could use even on smaller stages to like ensure safety?

put a dummy human slot in and practice getting your attacks to hit right infront of him, make that your "bullseye" as that will help you gain a mindset to be tippering most of your attacks, which isn't always the right thing but being you are learning, its a good start.

Its just practice and knowhow. I wouldn't be worrying about the lag, I'd be worrying if the ending blow hit..such as a fury of f-airs to f-smash, you don't care about the f-smash's lag..you just want to make sure it hits.

A few series of jabs is pretty good idea for spacing at times, but manily if your foe is all up in your face after a blocked SHFFL fair or something. The best thing to do is jump, pull back a bit with the analog stick as you are about to reach the peak of your jump, and when you do...use the C stick to deliver a SHFFL fair. The best part is, even if the SHFFL misses or hits a sheild, you can dash away. =)

it works against a sheild in that case. probably better against peach though since shes floaty as opposed to a fast faller. the multiple jab though is probably very situational. i would have probably went with a down tilt instead but tahts jsut me

Fair and Dtilt really are the most effective for spacing. The pressure you put with them is great, and either of them could start a combo for you. Fair starts an aerial combo, and Dtilt can go either in a JC Grab or Fsmash.

People often ask me, "Do you have any advice? What can I do to become better?" My response is always the same: you need better spacing. Since spacing is not always the easiest aspect of the game to practice, I want to tell you what I did to achieve good spacing.

1. Find a friend with about the same skill level.
2. Play thousands of matches using only A, c-stick, and jump. Do not use L/R at all.
3. Use all of the characters moves during the matches. Get a feel for what each one can do in every situation.

Over time one player will begin to dominate. The weaker player should then realize where and when his spacing is taken advantage of, because it is much easier to realize your mistakes and attempt to fix them when the game is not moving at the pace it does when L and R are allowed.

If you practice this way I guarantee your spacing will improve, and with it, your timing.
This is imo one of the best marth players ever

His words you can trust

Too good also very good when it comes to spacing

Dang it G@BE, you beat me to it. That trick really works, I've tried and do it to every n00b I can find. My game nearly doubled instantly after a week.
