Help with Pillaring

Hi!

I seem to be having a lot of trouble successfully pillaring my opponent, as I'm getting shield grabbed out of it, and that kind of defeats the purpose- M I RITE!!?!?

Anyway, what happens is I either get too excited and don't SH out of my shine, don't FF the Dair, or flub the L-Cancel. What can I do to help me get the SHFFL'd Dair to come out right consistently?

practice. try using a human bowser w/ the control stick reset to auto-cc, hadicap9, you handicap1, and damage ratio .5

that's the secret to it: practice.

You can also allow the opponent to get a star. The star's invincibility acts similiarly like a shield.

I've heard that the starman adds a few frames of lag, i'm not sure if its true or not, but its easier to do it with lvl 9 bowser .5 dmg ratio your handicap 1 theirs 9, You can even hold the control stick on a player 2 controller up while you turn the game and and he'll constantly crouch I think so you can pillar him even more. Other than that just keep practicing, the hardest part is fast falling at the peak of your jump with frame perfect timing ><

Perfect pillaring isn't perfectly effective. You're going to get grabbed if they shield grab correctly.

A star man feels about the same as a shield, if anything it is less laggy.

It's extremely hard to time it right to grab them in those few possible frames though. So pillaring is safe for the first couple shines, then you oughta back away.

Techniques that immobilize the opponent:

Pillar
Multishine
Jab Cancel

Techniques that everyone thinks immobilizes the opponent but really won't work consistentally against high level players:

Pillar
Multishine
Jab Cancel

yes, there is a way around this. it's called practice. i find it more difficult w/ falco than fox because i have to use the control stick, but you normally don't really need more than 2 anyway, unless you're trying the unnecessary under the tree "infinite"

True, don't completely rely on perfect pillaring to give you a huge advantage, if your opponent is agressive and catchs on to what you're trying to do, he'll do everything in his power to try and stop you-in which he has a fairly good chance of doing. You should position yourself right, and don't do a lot of attacks at once, you might screw up and leave yourself open.

Can someone explain how someone can get out of one of these techniques?

Thanks alot, guys. I had been doing the handicap and the damage ratio, but I didn't think to have him CC. Thanks!

Block, evade, wavedash, etc.

EDIT: Or you could attack back.
Sorry, should have clarified. Let's say that your opponent has their shield up and you're attacking their shield frame-perfectly with the JC shine, pillar, or jab cancel. Assuming that you can attack frame-perfectly, what are your opponents options of escaping?

On the same idea, if you pillar just slightly behind them, is it possible to make it so that they would have to pivot in order to grab you? Because that would certainly solve the issue of being shield grabbed...

Yes but any kind of light shielding/slippery character will be able to break the pressure chain because you can't jump as far backward as you can forward. Cross ups in general are very effective with falco however, and should be attempted all the freaking time because they are awesome.

@ burningherbs: if you're frame perfectly multishining, their only options are to light shield, or to shield SDI. in this case, you'd have to follow w/ a pillar to move after them, but they could be buffering a roll/ dodge while they shield sdi'ed / light shield, at which point, they escaped.

ha that's the funniest thing i'll ever see on the boards....
... but it's very true... they only work when unexpected... good players expect a falco to do that... u r wise...
