Not sure if this is where I should post this, but if its not a Mod should go ahead and move this...

Anyway I recently downloaded GIMP to mess around with a Photoshop NFL Nike Pro Combat template to make some cool uniforms! Anyway Im having trouble messing with the colors in the layers. When I edit a layer color the color doesnt change. Only the layers near the top will change. Also, when I edit Helmet Color 1 the WHOLE uniform changes color. Can anyone help? Thanks!

For future reference, general questions can be asked here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=290735&page=2 But we can leave this open until we figure this out.

I'm not quite understanding what you're asking. Are you trying to change all of the colors on the layer? Or just part of the layer?

If GIMP is anything like PS you should be able to use the Marquee/Selection Tool or something similar to affect only part of a single layer, without changing the rest.

Maybe if you had an image to provide we could help you out a little more? I'm not certain what it is you're trying to do.

GIMP's layers aren't quite as good as photoshops unfortunately. I haven't used GIMP in forever, but from what I remember you can target a specific color and change its value with the color selector (the little hand pointing towards colored squares) and then change them directly in hue/saturation under adjustments.

GIMP is a pretty unstable program, from what I remember so if it's not a layer thing, it might actually take a re-install to fix. It's not guaranteed, but if it's stopping your progress completely, it's worth a shot.

Here's a link to a picture of the template and the template download itself: http://rezland.deviantart.com/#/d2sfucg

Each part of the uniform is a layer (EX: socks, jersey, pants, etc.) When I change a layer color nothing happens. The only thing that happens is when I change the color of the helmet layer. Say I change the helmet color to green, the whole uniform turns green. Im not sure if this has something to do with the helmet being high on the layer list or not because when I move certain layers up far enough on the list they will have the same whole uniform color changing effect.

Anyway, Ive never used GIMP before... Just something I wanted to have fun with to make up new NFL Pro Combat jerseys just for the fun of it.

I can't even think of a good reason why that would happen...

So when you say "change the color of a layer" what exactly are you doing in GIMP? Using the Hue/Saturation adjuster on a single layer, or what?

It's weird that one layer affects all the others. Maybe it really is just a fault in GIMP, or maybe there's a problem with the template itself somehow (is GIMP compatible with .psd files, or does it use some other file type?). Wish I could be more help, I really know next to nothing about GIMP though.

GIMP is compatible with Photoshop files. I'm just not sure why one layer is affecting the rest. Must be a fault in the program....
