help with burning

I have a movie that I can burn to a DVD. It burns to the disc but when I put in the DVD player, it won't work in the DVD player. I am seriously lost and I really need help ASAP

What might be the problem is that there are two types of DVDs. DVD +r and DVD -r. You might have the wrong format for your DVD player.

Or it might be that your DVD player may not read for whatever file type you're using, if read from the disc in that manner at all.

For instance, my DVD player doesn't work unless I first convert the .avi file or whatever it is into a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS type movie.
