Help! Rob is too strong for me

guys i consider myself an okay lucas player....he is my main and im 3rd on the gamebattles ladder using him...but i lose to people who use Rob and snake but mostly Robs...is there any pros in here(lol jk...but if they wanna helpo thats cool)...that can help me...what do i do against Robs...there priority is so great...and i cant even pika fire spam them cuz his projectiles are faster than mine...man my character is just such a bad matchup...and with snake players all i can do is tay back and play cat and mouse cuz snakes moves are all stronger too...and dont let me tell u about snakes broken attacks out of sheild...i dont really have any safe things to do agianst these character...the only safe thing against snake is my down air...errr....help me please!

Rob has no reliable projectiles. Just spam PK Fire to build damage and wait for mistakes, he has a lot of high lag attacks.

bor of course i am...haha...its just i have trouble with snakes and robs...and Rob does have reliable projectiles...his cd, and that laserdoesnt fail often....the laser comes out faster than my pika fire...and remember this is online so u cant really react with the lag to obsorb it

But yeah ill figure sumthin eventually its not like i get ***** its just so troublesum...but uh i just thought somone had a strat or sumthin....i got strats for the other characters...and thats why im third i guess...i even like playin the oh so scary marth...lol

Conda, don't bash him like he's a noob. I haven't actually played him, but every person I've played on gamebattles who commented on my lucas says the only person who comes close to me is Mekos, quite a few saying that Mekos is better than me, so I have some respect for this person.

As far as matchups go, Mekos, if you have any, please contribute to the matchup thread, which also happens to be where you might find help with ROB.

R.O.B. is tough, but you can combo him SO GOOD! I'll throw out some vids of me vs. Ginger shortly. Fullhop all the time to get around Lasers and Gyros and just PK Camp is your main strategy. Obviously don't try to be all fast with it, use it smart and you can out-damage him. Laser has lag, too.

Use his downsmash spam to your advantage, you can hit his tendrils with a downsmash or upsmash, grab him out of it, or do a rising d-air to avoid the next one. If they like to dodge dsmash dodge dsmash, just dsmash after the first one and you should be good.

Shield the gyro, even if it's on the ground in front of you, run up to it and shield it. You can also grab it and throw it up in the air

And once you're in close, just **** him up.


Snake is tough as well, especially online (Cort is a ***, let me tell you, all he does is f-tilt). Punish everything he does with a PK fire (nothing else is really safe), or if you can quickly cross him up with a roll to f-tilt or stick do that. Other than that you're just trying to put yourself in a position where you can actually get him off the stage and kill him.

ROBs gyros can be a pain to grab though, especially in the lag. Often, you might just zap yourself on it. I usually throw it off play, but not off stage, so he can't make another one.

fellow lucas players the thing thats working for me is saving my down b and using it to spike horiszontally at high %...ill keep working on finding tactics agains Rob(good Rob players who know how to space)

yeah and this help im asking is for online too, offline i can handle them a lot better(like everyone else porbably)

I'd like to think I have the R.O.B and snake match ups understood so I'll offer my opinions if you think I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

ROB is one of the easier matchups for Lucas for me. Nair to tilts own. Full jump to falling forward air leads to nice things. The laser can only go up about 45 degrees If you're in the 80 to 50 degree area you can forward air but there isn't must rob can do. Directly up is bad due to uptilt and upsmash from ROB. If you can't power shield the laser from ROB just stay in that area or do a shield approach walk then shield walk then shield.

The laser isn't something that can be spammed seeing as it gets really weak after first use. You should also be able to pk fire after getting hit with a weak laser.
Same with the gyro it's a one time use thing. I would be rushing the ROB so he uses the gyro. While it's on the ground he can't shoot another one and then it's something I don't have to worry about or better yet can pick up and use against him. I don't thing the uncharged gyro hurts that much.

The thing that makes the matchup annoying thus far is sidestep to down smash. I don't know if any one else is having trouble with that. But I usually do down smash(3hits) or if I know they like to sidestep I upsmash.

Snake is a pretty even match up If you can keep up with his projectile spam. He big and slow; easy to combo. Just getting the combo is a problem. DI is crucial for this match up. Usually in this match I live easily to 160+ unless I get utilted or c4.

about Snakes projectiles unless he "cooks" the nade it won't explode on contact. So just run through it. If he cooks it rush and shield like with ROB.

Basically for this matchup when I get to snake try to keep him in the air with utilts upairs and nairs. On the ground he has a quick attack in the jab and ftilt. But in the air nothing he has comes out fast enough. All he can do is airdodge and that is something you should look for and punish.

I don't know how to combat snake dashing (dash attack to usmash) The snake I play stopped doing that for more tilt based game style. I'm thinking though Upb might trade hits with it or even well time ftilt or nair.

Just find ways to get extra damage. A nair to tilt wouldn't hurt or maybe a down throw to utilt (at low precentages)

Watch for his sneeze. ROB reels his head back before he shoots a laser. whenever there is any sort of distance between you and ROB, watch for the sneeze and ready the absorb. Try to stay grounded during this fight (SHs are fine); ROB's aerial attacks will destroy you.
