I need a way to play defensively with metaknight. I can't win with just offense alone anymore, since people are finding ways to work around it.

Pretty much any defensive tactics work with MK, if strung together properly. Just experiment with things like Pivot Grabbing, and the Dimensional Cape. You could even run away from them, RAR, and then use the fair as they come at you. Be creative, come up with something.

Thats not playing defensive, thats mindgames.

The defensive aspect of MK's game is spacing, which is key to doing well with him. Pressure your opponent while keeping your spacing with F-airs and tilts; you should be fine.

Using mindgames defensively is still playing defensively. Putting pressure on the opponent is offensive. It forces the opponent to play defensively. Useful, no doubt. But not defense.

When I said "Pressure your opponent while keeping your spacing with F-airs and tilts," I was referring to MK's offensive AND defensive game.

MK's defensive game is good spacing. It's not complicated.

I agree with that, and I want to say something else:

MK's job is to pressure, pressure, and pressure more. Obviously, there will be common spurts when you'll need to use good spacing for a little defense, but your defensive game should be used to help you find a good opportunity to launch a good offense; after all, offense is what MK does best. The defense is all about setting up the offense again in a way that minimizes the damage that you take in the process.

Metaknight definitely isn't a camper. You shouldn't be waiting for them to approach the vast majority of the time. As previoulsy mentioned, pressure is your best friend. Your defensive game really means keeping yourself safe from their attacks by spacing well so you can't start pressuring again. You shouldn't have trouble being very offensive as a metaknight, just make sure you space really well to protect yourself from shield grabs and the like.

since he has no projectiles his range is everything he's got on the defensive side.
but on the other hand I don't think you should ever only play defensively, cause if they start feeling secure knowing that you are playing defensively they will put even more pressure on you, so you should switch it up during the match.

I think this match is good to see how to play MK defensively
