To all of my friends on SWF, I need your help in choosing a permanent main on brawl. Lately I've been picking up characters but then leaving them later, I just can't stay with one character it seems.

Your help is very much needed guys

Hey ElemMaster. I know I'm not really your friend, but I know what you are going through as I was in the same situation.

I can only suggest you to just use random characters in matches, and if their playstyle kinda is what you can or want to work with, look up on them. That's how I found Mr. Game & Watch as a secondary.

As other version, you can try to pick up several characters, and play with them for longer periods (I'd even say force yourself to play them, not just jump around), like 2 or 3 weeks. So you get to know a character's playstyle far better than with just randomly hopping around like a slinky, and can decide far more easily whether the character is okay for you. This is how I found Bowser as a main. I'm still not amazing with him, but I'm steadily growing better.

I still play other characters like Sonic or such for fun, but I'm not particularly good with them.

Noone can choose the character for you, not even the closest of your friends. It's all up to you. All one can tell you is what I did: try to find solutions around your problem.

Or, if in doubt, play Meta Knight.

You should main Ike, so while your friends help you, you can fight for them.

I'll try to, thanks for helping me :) What are you talking about, you are one of my friends <3

As a man who used to play Ike, don't choose him if you actually want to win. G&W is a good choice if you're already considering him.

On a serious note, G&W is a relatively easy to play high tier, so I'd suggest that. May be biased though, as I used to main him when I played Smash.

Yea, that's true. G&W is comparably easy to pick up and play respectably with, since he's a very straight-forward character and doesn't afraid of anything.

Besides, G&W is just epic... nothing more cool than his beeping sounds. *remember back in the day when he unlocked G&W in Melee and cried in joy because of the sheer beauty of seeing the 2D guy in Smash* ^_^

Long time no see, good sir XD

Anyway, as Ike its kinda fun to face people. Winning or losing doesn't mean much to me, I is teh good sportererz

As for G&W, I'm only considering him because he fits my name and my title on here ^_^ Not just that though, I main Olimar and know that his recovery fails epically and G&W's recovery is unique, I like it :)

Eh, I don't know. I probably would have to main Dedede or Wolf if I was to determine my character choice on the character itself. It's not a good idea, because it can prove very annoying and exhausting if you want to play with a character you aren't comfortable with playing.

As said, the best choice would be to try out several characters, play as them for a few times and see if they fit your playstyle. You also should read up on guides, watch tournament videos, and such, to get an impression as how they are properly played.

Besides, only losing is a really ****ty feeling. I'm used to it because I'm not really good, but it does really feel good if you lose a match barely or even win. ^^

Also, you still can play characters which are incredibly fun, just for the lulz. I play a lot as Captain Falcon or Snake because I just love playing as them. Even tho I suck even more with them than my mains. XD

Playing random should more should help me choose a main better, that's why I thought of using G&W.

I mostly lose matches barely, but sometimes I win. Regardless of the outcome I always push forward though, a few loses there isn't gonna put me down >=D

Well if you like range and don't mind MU difficulty (most of his MUs are 40:60 in his disadvantage and he has major weaknesses against the 2 Infinite-CGers), maybe Bowser could be an interesting choice for you. He has no real projectile, but most of his moves have quite some range. He has some very quick attacks (his overall speed is actually comparable with Snake's) and goes even in the MU against Meta Knight, so... maybe him?

I've considered Bowser as well, despite the fact that my sister told me to pick him just because he's cute :dizzy: The only thing that turns me off from him is his running speed and heavy weight, ICs can kill just about anyone with CBs and I don't want D3 doing the same.

I thought this type of blogging wasn't allowed lol
Hm, what do you mean by "this type of blogging"?

Bowser is actually around average in running speed. <_<
And being a heavyweight is not bad, quite the contrary.

Unless you're getting gimped constantly >_>
MetaKnight.

Not joking.

He's very enjoyable to play as, both competitively and casually.
Blasphemy. I play Meta Knight and I'm like "This is too easy. No matter what attack I choose to throw out, chances are very high that it will beat my opponent's attack, and chances are very low that I'll get punished if I miss. I can also recover from anywhere with almost no contest"

Kirby is like Meta Knight, but not lame.

Apparently awesome Virginia is a good criteria by which to judge main compatibility.

I've never had this problem, now that I think about it. I constantly see people struggling to stick with one character, whereas I've just mained Kirby in all 3 smashes because I love the character. He's pretty terrible in Melee, and if I played it competitively chances are I might have switched mains, but I didn't. In Brawl, he's not an autowin, but he's more than usable. And fun, if you're smart.

Stick with Kirby >=( I know I've seen you on the Kirby boards a ton, don't betray the most lovable character in the cast!

^ I googled "cute Kirby" and that's what I got. I guess people are entitled to their opinions...

That is not funny. I guess asking a Kirby main for good humour is somewhat ambitious though.
