[Help] Assigning stages to .brstm files

How do I control which stages play which .brstm files?

I've been trying to make my own custom Project M 3.5 build. I'm using the libertyernie classic 78-stage expansion pack to get more stages. I've restored most of the Project M stages to their original Brawl variants and moved several of the Project M stages to Custom Slots (safforn city, fountain of dreams etc.) and also took many stages from Arko's collection (Molgera, 7.8/10 etc.). I changed custom5 to have the appropriate stage pictures and titles so all the imagery/stages correspond and I really like my stage layout.

I know how to create new .brstm files from my own music.
I know how to change which music files can play on a stage from the selection available through the in game music selection.

I do not know how to change the assignment of music to custom stages.

Example: I moved Project M's Saffron City (TENGEN) to CUSTOM07, as I wanted both Saffron City and Spear Pillar as stages. In the 78-stage expansion, CUSTOM07 was N64 Dreamland. Now when I select the Saffron City stage, Gormet Race plays. I would like to change it so some pokemon song plays instead, without overwiting the gormet race .brstm.

How do I point a stage to a differant .brstm?

Firstly, since you're using classic expansion, check here: http://lakora.us/brawl/cep/6.5m
You'll notice "CUSTOM07.pac" uses the X16.brstm file. Go into your "sound>strm" directory on your sd card and replace X16 with the song of your desire. Since you do not wish to delete or overwrite the original Gourmet Race (X16), just rename it so it isn't occupying the slot.

All BRSTMs go in the "STRM" folder, if you need a list for which names replace which slots, then I have included one in this post, otherwise continue to use the above link for classic expansion stage slots.

Ok. So the stage associated with Custom07 will always be pointing to X16.brstm, which was originally homeruncontest and in the 78-classic-expansion, was overwritten with GormetRace.

What I didn't see before was that X16 was not the GormetRace as used by other stages. Other stages use F05 and W07. I was afraid that by changing one I'd be changing all of them.

The question I was trying to ask was whether I could point Custom07 to a different BRSTM, say H06 which is already SaffromCity in projectM 3.5. This way I don't need to change the homerun contest soundtrack (in the chosen example). That one doesn't bother me very much, but the StageClear overwrite is pretty jarring.

It certainly is possible. The classic expansion stages use .gct codes which dictate the song slot it uses. You'd need to know which line of code in the .gct correlates with the stage of choice and rewrite it's line so that it reads from a different song ID.
Of course, this may prove to be time consuming / arduous if one isn't familiar with how to change said codes.
Can't exactly offer any alternatives.
