For some reason, I'm terrible at playing against Captain Falcon. His attacks always seem to penetrate my shield (probably something I'm doing wrong), and I can't DI out of his chaingrabs or combos. Any tips?

CF hitting you through your shield has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the fact that Marth's shield sucks.

Try intercepting him more with Fairs so you don't have to shield.

As for the combos, of course you can DI out of them. You just have to DI where he doesn't think you will go, and can't do anything about it quick enough ;)

Quoted for truth.

You can try light shielding, but that doesn't help much overall.

I have a lot of trouble with Captain Falcon as well. If you get him by the edge, you have a distinct advantage, but it's pretty hard to get him off.

Nairs or fairs to stop im in midair dont really bother trying to shield grab but if u do get a grab off up throw and do some up tilts to combos right there. Get him off the edge and Edge guard With Shield breaker(B) trust me it works almost nothing he can do unless he grabs you with his up b cuz you were to close. Other wise use the dancing blade to the third move to get him off the edge. But Shield breaker works really good for edge guarding falcons and gannons. Dont get falcon to much room do to his aerials keep him close but far enough so he cant grab you.

CC before you shield and hold it so that when he penetrates your shield with nair, you will CC it and grab him out of it. If it doesn't through your shield for some strange reason, then you can grab him anyway.

EDIT: Happy 1337th post smash g 0 d

Utilts, Uairs, Tipped Fairs (launcher), Nair (sometimes), and Tipped Fsmashes own Falcon. He can't hit you if you space properly.

Dthrow him off the ledge, dtilt his DJ ( i do this alot).

On his approach, outprioritize his aerials with your utilt, it cuts through anything he'll come at you with, if spaced properly. His ftilt is also good at knocking back CF.

Generally against a Falcon player I try to keep myself within tip range but no closer or farther. Falcon needs momentum to deliver those combos, so if you can keep the pressure up he can't do that. Well spaced Fairs are your friend. If you get stuck in a combo, remember that the Marth's fair comes out faster than Falcon's knee.

If you get combo'd, you need to DI properly. In most cases, that means AWAY from him, but it really does depend on what exactly is going on. You may have to change your DI if you have a chance of getting kneed in order to survive.

Remember that Falcon's game is all about tech chasing. Mix up your wake ups, techs, and tech rolls and hopefully he'll miss. If you don't, or miss a tech, you'll probably eat a knee to the face.

Falcon is also easy to edge guard, so hopefully once he's off the ledge he's down. Unless he has amazing tech skill, in which case you need to also vary your edge guarding. Fsmash is techable in most cases, but dtilt usually hits them when they're not close to the stage. He may also recover high, in which case you might be able to hit him and force him to recover low, ken combo him, or even fsmash him.

I played a Capt. Falcon at a tournament a bit back, and I tried to DI away from his chain throws but it wasn't working for me... My percentage wasn't very high so i just stayed really close to him majority of the time so he can just grab me again. So basicly, there wasn't enough room for me to DI in any direction.

-Camp dash dance and priority; retreating f-airs are great for the latter. I believe M2K did this vs. Darkain in the FCD crew battle?
-DI away from whatever he does unless it's a knee or other finisher, in which case DI to survive.
-If you must approach do it carefully, I like to dash cancel into d-tilts personally.
