So just bought Super Smash Bro for Wii U for my 8 year old. This is going to sound dumb, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to start a 1 player Smash game. It allows us to pick a character but then you can't hit + of anything to start unless you use another controller and play with 2 players. The only thing he can play in 1 player in Tour mode which is very odd and difficult for him.

Probably something simple we've missed, but have literally spent the last 15 minutes trying things to play in one player mode to no avail!

Help please!

Move your cursor over to the spots next to player 1 that say "none" then hit A. That brings a cpu player into the game, and you can set their difficulty and character.

Down on the corner, out in the street.
You are supposed to start a smash game with a CPU.

When you go into the smash mode, click on the the spaces where it says "none" (next to player one) and then a CPU will pop on random.

Then you simply pick the character you want to fight, set the difficulty and then fight :p

Edit: lol nvm :4greninja:'d

Besides what those guys said, in the games and more section is a solo mode with more options for you to play alone.

You can't play regular Smash mode against yourself. That wouldn't be very fun.
Although, in the main menu, you can select the "Solo" or "Group" option. "Solo" offers several features that allows a player to play against CPU's, practice by himself, and other various gametypes.

Thanks. Played solo mode in the other games section. Will give the above a go. Surprised it isn't set up like just about every other Wii U game we have by which you only choose one player it let's you start, vs having to specifically select CPU as your opponent.

The reason it makes you choose is because you can choose between one and four, and you can change their levels.

Seeing as how this question was answered, I will be closing this thread up. If your son wants to play single player group battles, just go to the multiplayer section and switch the 2nd player to CPU. You can open up the 3rd-8th Players to make them CPU (depending if you are playing 6,7,8 player Smash). You can adjust the CPU level by clicking on the number and scrolling through the levels (1 being the easiest and 9 being the hardest).

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact myself or another staff member (the guys with the red usernames). Happy Smashing!
