Between you and me there's only us.
I have made this topic for the benefit of
clarity and strict technicality. Also, I hope
to admonish the silly "I love satan" posts I've
been seeing. Yes, I know I've been posting
rather silly, but at least I don't mean it.

Theist: A person who believes in a higher power
Athiest: Someone believes there is no higher power
Agnostic: One who believes there's no way to
determine the legitimacy of Sublimity, for or
against. As a note, agnostics can be athiestic
in that they can believe there's no way to prove
the nature of god, but what evidence does exists
points the the non-existence of any diety.
Gentile: Non Jewish person.
Heathan: Any person not of the faith the person
doing the name calling. This is a christian
favorite, but its not neccesarily restricted to
their pullpit.
Satanist: One who follows the satanic teachings.
These embody a extremely stringent policy of
doing onto others as they have done to you, with
provisions excluding unacceptable acts such as
creutly to children and animals.
Anti-Godists: This is my own little term cooked
up to describe all you would-be satanists. These
people do not believe in the satanic teachings,
but merely define themselves as being the opposite
of christians. They have no doctrine, no mission
operative, they're merely rebels without
causes. Me no like.
Wiccans: A organic religion based on earth-
worship. It extends to black magiks and white
magiks and stuff like that. I haven't seen anyone
truely wiccan on these boards, or at least noticed
it.
Scientologists: I don't know what their bag is.

Anyhow, you can reply if you want, I don't know
what you could say to this...

I believe my stand as an atheis was proven through countless debates. I can speak for SnorSnor when I say he'd choose a new catagory: Heavy believer/follwer/worshiper of a higher power.

If you mean Christan Scientist when you say Scientologists they believe that the world can be explained through science and science can be explained through religon.

ie. The big bang created the world and God created the big bang when he spoke (like in the catholic bible) or something like that.

of corse i could be wrong and there could be Scientologists.

A Unitarian is someone who choses not to have others' beliefs pressed upon them. They believe what they want to, and what they think is right.
While it's true some people might say they are a Unitarian, but their beliefs display a different religion, they would be considered that religion.
Basically, as a Unitarian I believe in some sort of higher power.
A reason for everything, and everything for a reason.

Bah, anyone who's read any of the religious debates (recent ones anyway) will know I'm a theist. Unfortunately, fellow Christians on the boards have given Christians a bad name around here. From what I can tell, some people on the boards stereotype all Christians as people who will never listen to reason, stubborn people, and we're people who want to force our religion down your throat and make you believe it.

And for that I am sorry. Please don't stereotype just because of something I or anyone else has said. I've never tried to convince anyone God was real, He's up there, and in the end all you atheists are going to h*ll because you don't believe in him. That's never been my belief. Some people have more faith than others. I believe what I believe, and it doesn't really matter to me what other people believe.

Again, I'm just asking everyone (especially BBT and LE, who were part of the debates) not to stereotype all Christians (theists) like that.

I've made foray's into Scientology, so I'll sum it up very simply.

First and fore-most, it's not a religion in a theistic sense. Christians (followers of christ), can be scientologists as well. What it is is a set of guidelines used to achieve the most logical process of thought possible. Basically.. it's an attempt to live your life in the least confusing, most satisfying way possible.

Too bad Dyanetics is such a boring book. Maybe I'll pick it up again and give it another shot. It makes more sense than I expected.

But.. in summation.. Scientology is not a religion.

If you couldn't tell, I'm agnostic. My beleif in science extends to the point of what I can understand. If I don't understand it, it was not explained well enough, I don't have enough info, so my interpretation may be suspect. I, for example, only have the vague idea of metaphysics and higher dimensions, alternate reality. So, I believe they may exist, but will wait for someone to explain it to me better, or give me proof of its existance. A warp gate into higher reality would more than suffice to prove higher dimensional theory to me.

I always wondered what scientology was Slakk, i'm also agnostic. Basically i believe anythings possible, but from what knowledge i've amassed on the subject i still see no reason to go to church, ask god for guidance, think happy thoughts etc. On the flip side, if my family wants me to pray with them over thanksgiving, i don't really mind- plus boy would my cheeks be red if there actually were a god. Plus Christmas festivity is cool, commercialized or not. So while no evidence that i've seen suggest there is a god, and i don't buy into all that secular reasoning and convinient dual definitions in the bible nonsense- i do accept the possibility that there could be a higher power of some sort. Just because someone cannot prove it's existence- doesn't make it false, merely an irrelevant practicality. did i just create an oxymoron? hmm, i think i did. :p

SLaKKiCHu, I think you only read Dyanetics, sort of a companion book on ways to live better. Scientology is an actual religion, not just a set of guidelines. Someone once tried to explain it to me, but the "back story" (for lack of a better term) just seemed strange and completely unbelievable. It seems to me that the only reason this religion is still around is that it's beliefs give wealthy people a great chance of salvation (of course they don't just flat out state it like that, but it is there).

The only thing I know about Scientology is that it was created by L. Ron Hubbard (a sci-fi writer). He is (in)famous for his quote about religion being the best and easiest way to make money.

Thus, it is really just a moneymaking scheme. It doesn't try to hide it, really, although it also never says that out loud. The funny thing, from what I've read about it, is that Hubbard basically created a dogma from scratch, slapped it down, and said it was fact. Televangelists railed against it for a long time, but they quieted down after they realized that any point they made about how the Scientologists beliefs were obviously untrue, they undermined themselves.

As a side note, the 700 Club is one great dark comedy TV series, isn't it? I especially loved that episode where Falwell blamed Sept. 11th on Atheists and Gays. That goofy Jerry Falwell!

I guess I've been missing all these "I love Satan" posts somewhere. The Satanic Bible is one of the most competent religious texts ever, and it even cracks some good jokes now and again. I daresay if I had to choose a religion for some reason, I'd choose Satanism easy. Before you judge me on that, Christians, read it for yourselves.

Be careful though.

You might learn something.

note to all forumgoers...

King tut's post here is a great example of what NOT to do. If I could ban him from this room, I would. Ridiculous.
