so use the ones it came with to minimize lag?
If you use the cables the Wii came with (composite) it WILL 100% SURE lag MORE with them than with the component cables. Use the thread finder and check out the HD Lag Discussion. There's a pretty complete writeup on there.

It will lag, and there is nothing you can do to fix it. To minimize it without changing TVs, use the component cables, since your HDTV won't have to deinterlace the signal. But it still has to upscale from 480p to 720p or 1080i or whatever your TV runs in. The only way to kill lag is to use a TV that supports 480i or 480p as a native resolution. I use a Sharp 20" EDTV with my Wii, and there is still a very minimal amount of lag simply due to LCD response time.

Lag doesn't deal with upscaling to higher resolutions, Lag deals with response times of the LCD. Some LCDs have great response times of 4ms or less. Some have alot.

A friend of mine who plays Halo 3 on a CRT went to a LAN party and played it 720p on an LCD. He said he could notice the lag a bit.

Somewhere...
CRTs still reign as king in turns of response time, picture quality, and formats supported; they only have 2 weaknesses; weight and size (largest CRT was Sony's 40", though this is really hard to find).

My Sony 36" CRT HDTV KD 36XS955 is an excellent TV; it supports 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i...therefore, no matter what you watch, the picture is awesome...the response time is most likely under 1ms, and the picture is more crisp than any other TV I have seen (I'm not just saying this because its the TV I've owned; I've looked at a lot of TVs and I have yet to see one that tops this one....though, I haven't seen Sony's 30" CRT HDTV-ready set either....but I'd imagine it's right up there with mine).

reducing lag is merely a matter of playing it on the "right" TV...if you want a better picture, then you'll want to get component cables and use it with an HDTV.
