So, I have a new HD TV and after plugging in my gamecube and whatnot the TV said it was displaying 480i rather than 480p. Sadly, I have no standard televisions in my house to compare the lag to, but the lag did seem to be less than other HD TVs I've been using. I've been wondering, is an HD TV displaying 480i going to completely remove the lag due to the video not needing to convert? Also, I can change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 if necessary. Otherwise, I'll have to invest in a converter box of some sort to (almost entirely) remove the lag. Thanks.

Nope hdtv lag is caused mostly by post proceesing the image, which can't be disabled

Yeah, but I figured if it's displaying 480i it's possibly not transcoding at all.

If it is, in fact, an HDTV, 480i is not the native resolution.

It is having to deinterlace/scale the image to show it on your screen.
There's lag, even if you think you don't notice it.

An HDTV cannot "display" 480i, and unless you're seeing a small box in the middle of your screen with interlaced video, I'm inclined to believe that the HDTV is simply notifying you of what kind of signal it's receiving from the source.

Okay thank you. I'm not very knowledgeable on the matter. Feel free to lock the thread.

Well, VGA is good only if the HDTV has the ports otherwise HDMI is what should be used, I heard HD Box Pro is good, otherwise I'll go with a good de-interlacer box like The Edge, which does a good job for upscaling 480/480p as well as 240p signals as well.

For anybody, I would check THIS site out, it's very in-depth for into upscaling/converting any signals to an HDTV.
