I don't know.. I feel like I'd be too used to the top tiers to come back to a low tier if I take that route. I'll consider it, though.

In terms of actually playing a top tier at the start, how does MewTwo or Dr.Mario sound as starters? Are they simply too low on the tier list aswell? What would you recommend? (Please don't say Fox.)
What they are trying to say is you HAVE to play as the top tiers to understand how to beat them and what they would do to you when you use Bowser.

You don't have to like playing as them but they are going to be who you face 95% of the time in a competitive environment. You need to know their moves and movement inside and out.

Mewtwo and Dr. Mario would be wasted time for the most part. The chances of going up against a great Main of those 2 characters is very small.

Well first of all, Mewtwo is not a high tier at all.
But I don't mean necessarily that you have to main a low tier, I just mean to have one that you play so you can develop certain skills faster, like how you play the neutral and just having a better understanding of the metagame. Continue playing whoever you want, but also having experience with high tiers helps out a lot. Doc Mario is a great character to play if that's one you want to choose. I recommend playing all of them a little and experimenting with what you like.

Mhm.. Okay.

I suppose you guys are right. I'll opt for Marth, then. I'll have to learn what he has to offer and all the movement possible with him, and then hopefully with that knowledge, in conjunction with the experience I get from facing all the top tiers, will both carry over and hopefully melt into my Bowser gameplay.

B.T.W-

This thread got TOTALLY off topic with how to get good with Bowser and what-not. My condolences to the thread creator in advance!

[Edit] Fox is too fast for me to play just so you know. ^_^

Yeah, having a Falcon main really helps my Roy (secondary) with movement and MU knowledge.

I think that maining a low-tier is just fine for learning the game. I didn't play a lot of Fox for about a year and a half before I got bodied by Sheik. You get to learn a lot about the game in general. You get to learn matchups by watching a lot of tournament play. Game knowledge is huge when it comes to Smash.

If you like playing a low tier better than a high tier, just play them. Have fun, seriously. Plus you get a very good understanding of that low tier main. In my opinion, your style on a high tier can be heavily influenced by your style that you use on a low-tier that you main. It makes for odd option selects and can throw people off. In addition, you learn how to handle a high tier character with the limited options of a low tier, so the transition is fairly easy to a high tier. People also know matchups against the higher tier characters much better than they know the low-tier matchups. My Fox play has a very big hint of Ness in its play. It makes for a very interesting option selects.

Mostly, it is a video game. Do what is most fun. If you feel like you want to change your main, then you always can.

i know you will probably hate me for bringing this up i don't like maining most top tier characters, this is saying something as i can use 22 of the characters effectively
i hate trying to use a fox falco ice climbers and jigglypuff
i even don't mind samus bowser ganondorf or shiek
i think of the glaring weaknesses as negligible such as
ness's pk thunder
pichu's recoil damage
game and watch's poor defense
roy's short range
does anyone here think it's odd that i don't like 4 s tier characters despite being a veteran
Ness PK thunder is one of his greatest prowesses if you use it correctly. (Not as a recovery)
Pichu's recoil damage can be avoided by just not using those attacks.
Others I wouldn't know about.
I also don't think a veteran would be playing since February.

Is Ness's PK thunder actually good? I'm not being condescending, I'm actually asking. As a Mario, I tend to just cape it or air dodge it and punish the small child squatting in the corner.

Also, the veteran thing is a bit unfair. I didn't start playing in September despite that being my Smashboards join date. I'm just not a forum kind of guy usually. So we have no proof that he didn't start until February.

...Though I think his veteran boast was in poor taste as well.

I guess I should point out the glaring weaknesses that aren't listed that make the characters G&W, Pichu, and Roy pretty bad. G&W has two moves that can't be L-cancelled (idr which 2) and is easily edgeguarded. His recovery is highly verticle. He has some really cool tools to work with, but those 2 problems are huge. Roy's glaring weakness is how terrible his moves getting crouch cancelled are. Some of his moves (that can be kill moves) can be crouch cancelled at 70% by light characters if the Roy misses the sweet spot. His recovery also isn't too stellar. In addition to the recoil damage for Pichu, Pichu is very very light, and has terrible terrible range. If I remember correctly, Pichu has a lower forward smash range than Roy's grab range.

Both of those characters have pretty awful weaknesses and don't necessarily have the tools to make up for it. For instance, Fox and Falco can be chain-grabbed by about a third of the cast, but they have the tools to make up for it.

Okay. But Jigglypuff is still a top 8 character in Melee.
