The time is nearing when Microsoft is going to shut down the original Xbox live server - that is, for all xbox original games, including playing these older games that are compatible with the 360 online on the 360.

This includes Halo 2. It will be a sad day, as Halo 2 was my first online console gaming, and I have incredible memories of playing it at my friend's house on xbox live and having a lot of fun. If you don't believe me that this is really happening, just google it. You'll find an article about it.

Why is it? I'm not really so sure myself... but apparently, the xbox original games were programmed to only allow having 100 friends on your xbox live friends list, and they want to extend that list for some reason, and it won't work while the older server for the xbox originals is still up. Why would anyone need over 100 friends on xbox live anyway? Beats me. All I know is that this really is happening. I'm going to play some more halo 2 in the next few weeks, while it's still with us...

R.I.P. Halo 2 matchmaking, starting next month. You've set the standard for quality online team gaming, and will never be forgotten. Hopefully many Halo 2 LAN parties are to come.

I found it fine to make a new thread for this. The Halo discussion thread is swarmed with opinions about why people think ODST is good or bad, and about Halo: Reach coming out. I saw your post about the xbox live original server, and it was very briefly discussed. This was a thread for specifically people's opinions and discussions about the good times had with Halo 2, but if nobody cares that's fine also. Nobody actually posted about it so I would guess there are very few people on SWF who have even played Halo 2.

What's the point in saying that this doesn't really deserve it's own thread when the poster before said the same thing? :ohwell:

I guess we can still play Halo 2 via X-Link Kai? I haven’t used that program in like forever but I guess its still up and running. I always intended to play Mario Kart: Double Dash!! through it but I could never find any North American players on-line.

Good thing I play the PC version.

Sure, this is old news (and I mean ooooooold news) but its not all that supprising to see the original XBL being shut down. That way Microsoft can find new ways to nickle and dime you to death on the 360's XBL.

That's because there was nothing more to discuss about it. Xbox LIVE is being shut down on the original Xbox, get over it.

And people can post their opinions and discussions about the good times they had with Halo 2 in the Halo series thread.

And the point is that it's already been discussed and no one cares.

Good for you.

And please keep your console opinions to yourself, thanks.
