GunZ : Brawl

I don't know how many people have heard of/played GunZ: The Duel, but I very firmly believe it can be related to smash in a variety of ways. Now despite gunz being a third person shooter and Brawl being a Left-Right platformer, they both involve absurd amounts of advanced techniques. Now GunZ is almost totaly reliant on glitches where as smash involves a perfect blend of Meant to be and Oops type techs. The people of gunz have categorized their glitches into respective styles; K-Style revolves around a sword and D-Style revolves around a dagger, K-Style is generally accepted as the superior style. This doesn't mean that a good D-Styler cant hold his own against a good K-Styler. It just means that if two people put equal amounts of effort into learning one of these styles the K-Styler would fair much better in a 1v1.

(End of first paragraph, sorry for big wall of text. Theres more though:( )

Now in smash we have are wonderfully organized list of Tiers. Where Marth, Sheik, Fox and Falco, generally dominate in tourneys. So lets compare these to K-Stylers. Now lump everyone in mid tier with the D-Stylers. There is one style i left out of the first paragraph and that would be E-Style. In Gunz E-Style is considered the way GunZ was meant to played, however most e stylers still use some glitches but mostly the ones oriented around movement. So lets put low tier characters in here.

So we have:

High-Tier : K-Style
Mid-Tier : D-Style Please note im organizing this list by effectiveness in
Low-Tier: E-Style combat, and not by skill required to use.

Now since K-Stylers are most effective, They generally believe they are the best, pro, and superior to the other 2 styles. Even if they put just as much effort into learning their respective style as an E-styler did. So to generalize just a bit further, The higher you go the more Ego you get, and the lower the more Humble you get.

Then we have the players who play for fun. These players in GunZ would be Questers, and in Smash they would be itemers. These players generally play with friends and only want to have fun, they don't really care about any of the advanced techs they get by just fine in there small world. Alot of times these players are ignorant to what else there is, and like to stick to there shallow area of play. Completely oblivious to the depth there is beyond them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the resent announcement of WiFi this brings to mind another similarity, In GunZ there is the art of leading. This is compensating for lag. You aim slightly ahead of where ever your opponent is heading and on your screen you miss, but on their screen they just got wtfpwned. In the smash community I see lots of players worried about the effects lag will have on gameplay. In GunZ it added another dimension of depth and skill. I'd expect no less to come from Brawl.

GunZ is a relatively old game with shabby graphics and badly planned physics. But these mistakes led to a game that is far more fun than what it would have been. But I truly believe that if people would only look back at GunZ and how it developed. That we could learn how to improve upon GunZ mistakes yet still hold to mind what made it so great.

P.S. Sorry if you have trouble reading this I kind of wrote it as I went so I apoligize lack of organization and irrelevance.

I don't know if anyone on SWF has played gunz before put if you have, please help me explain :D

I've played GunZ, and believe that I'm an exceptional player, but frankly, the idea of GunZ in Brawl seems very out of place to me. Not only are your ideas of tiers trying to say that a computer platform game that isn't Nintendo related should deserve a character, but much less three, with their own tier structure that makes them inherently worse than the other ones is a bit unfair. I don't think leading is a very fair concept, and I think that the combinations you have to press to use some GunZ moves just wouldn't be a pretty transition onto the Brawl scene.

Man I havent played GunZ in so long. But your right, K-style is sort of similar to advanced smash play where wall techniques and speed techniques sort of act like wavedash and shffls in way of increasing your speed of attack. However unlike smash you have the variables of other players. Now you might try and argue that point by saying that most levels in smash have unknown variables but in truth those (like brinstars lava or the banzi bill) are on specific timers meaning you can account for them in your strategies. There definitely are some similarities but in truth you can find similarities between alot of random competitive games (see street fighter for smash's closest match).

While it's true that Street Fighter resembles Smash in alot of ways. Playing games like Street Fighter and other arcade fighters feel so limited, and ground based. Thats why I wouldn't compare them to smash. Smash and GunZ share the same kind of mobile freedom that most games can't seem to reproduce.

I'm an avid GunZ player (I can SS and BF quite well, I use a sword - but people have dubbed me a H-style player = Hybrid, mixing defensive style {long distance} with Sword attacks when necessary - Leobenmc), but I feel the "leading" aspect can't be integrated usefully in Brawl. Though I do see and respect the similarities, you can argue this point with many other games out there. I don't think Brawl is the "Gunz" of the Side-scrolling Brawlers. But thanks for sharing similar GunZ Interest.

E-Styler, best of my whole level range, but I haven't played in a while. (Too much Drift City).

Anyways, this is iffy. I know you are trying to piece them together, but it's like pretzels and mustard, some people might agree some people won't, because they're so different you'd never expect them to com together.

The only point I see in this thread is the lag-shot thing we did in Gunz. But that will take a lot of training, and for non-regular online playing, it's won't work.
Whereas in Gunz you needed to lag-shot almost all the time, in Brawl you only need to do it online, yet many people will play normal multiplayer mode more, ruining the training.

I dunno. Let 'em live, and we'll figure something out.

...I've been playing Gunz since I-Gunz first launched.

I can't see how you're comparing SSBB to Gunz. The only thing I can say is similar between meele and Gunz is that both require great technical skill, and endless gameplay.

But I don't see Fox or Falco doing RHHS or Marth BF'ing or DBF'ing. [Lmao actually marth does kinda DBF with f-airs.]

The first piece is what im relating Brawl to, that and the Tiers vs. Styles. Not saying that you could take gunz techs and import em into Brawl.

Very good point, I really hope that it is almost lagless, like strikers, so that going to a LAN tournament won't be that much different. That way you could practice online. But since there is no rank, I bet most of the time is spent playing noobs :(

I had this same exact thought for a long time now. I didn't really want to make thread about it.

With all these clans starting up it really remind me of Gunz lol.

lol I know someone who related k-style to advanced techs.

Personally though, when it comes to gunz, I think k-style is extreamly over rated. I dont use it and I often find that players that do are just as good as any other player. Its not any better/worse, just a diffrent method.
