Well my co op just released a rule that we are no longer allowed to step on the grass. they use the argument that stepping on it kills it and is harmful to the look of the co op. Now, I have been living there since i was 3(i'm 13 now). I never noticed that the grass ever looked bad when me and other children played in it. So my question is, does stepping on grass kill it? Please cite a source because i would like to write a letter to the board with some sources to try to let us use th grass. This topic is also for discussion about grass in general.

It definitely kills grass if you walk on it enough. You only need to look as far as any of a number of college campuses with green on them. People often cut through the grass as a shortcut in many areas of my campus; the grass dies and you're left with a sandy path through an otherwise green lawn.

Unless your area isn't very fertile or vegetation is low, stepping on grass doesn't seem to do much. Grass is very sturdy as long as there's enough space to grow.

Lol I don't like those rules. I enjoy walking, sitting, lying and pretty much doing anything on grass. Sometimes its so soft and pretty :) .

It can cause damage if the same area is walked on over and over or the same path is taken every time.

In order to actually kill it, I think it would require a lot of people to walk on it in a short period of time. I spend a lot of time in my yard doing various things and have never seen my grass die.
Even if it does die, I'm sure that it's not too long before more grass will grow in that same spot anyway.
But it could depend on the soil, climate, where you live, etc as well.

Stepping on grass doesn't kill it. Grass can be stepped on and eaten 80% of the way and still survive.

The only way to kill grass is to either poison it, starve it, or consume/destroy it's roots.

The "stepping on it by multiple people over several days kills it" idea is technically true, but it's actually the erosion of the soil underneath causing the grass to be uprooted that causes the bare patches where people constantly trod.

One way to kill grass is acid (yes my grass died because of that :'()

How does grass grow anyways? Seeds or something?

and remember kids: SAY NO TO ACID!

But how are millions of them planted on the ground? And where the hell do they come out of? I mean there are no flowers for seeds to drop so whats the deal with that?

To add to what Mewter said, grass produces seeds when it's allowed to grow long enough. Since people generally cut grass on a regular basis, most lawn grass never gets long enough to make seeds.

Your Earth Grass can indeed die if you walk over it constantly. I was so worried about that, so now I wear a BrainSlug to control myself so I don't walk too much on grass. You should do the same
