DATE AND TIME:
  • Saturday, August 14th
  • Schedule Outline:

11:00 AM - Doors open; Registration begins; Warm-up friendlies
1:00 PM - Tournament starts (Doubles will be first, Singles second)

VENUE:
Graphix Gaming Center
8 Newport Drive, Forest Hill, MD 21050
(410) 420-6811 (Venue phone)

  • There is plenty of parking, both directly in front of the venue and also nearby.
  • There are 24 chairs with a comfortable amount of space for 18+ setups (pictures at bottom of post).
  • If you want to take a break from Smash, there are many different activities provided by Graphix Gaming, such as the Wii room (play Rock Band with soundproof walls and lights that flash with the music), and loads of other stuff. Your venue fee does not cover anything outside of the tournament setups, however, so make sure you go to the front desk before you do anything in the back rooms.

GENERAL RULES:
  • Respect the equipment. Whether it belongs to Graphix Gaming or a fellow smasher, no one wants to have to worry about their stuff.
  • All food must be eaten in the cafeteria area. You may take drinks to your station while you play, but just be careful not to spill anything.
  • If you have a suggestion, idea, complaint, anything, do not hesitate to contact me either through this thread, a PM, or by phone or email.

FOOD & DRINK:
  • There are many places to get food nearby, such as Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, McDonald's, and even a grocery store. I recommend eating lunch before you come and then afterwards we can all hit up the Pizza Hut which is within walking distance, or someone not waiting to play can just go get some pizza and bring it back to the tourney.
  • The venue has two huge vending machines with many different kinds of energy drinks, soda, and snacks.

PRICES:
  • Venue Fee: $8
  • Singles: $10 per person
  • Doubles: $20 per team
  • Payout Scheme: 60/30/10 for singles and doubles (actual payouts are subject to number of entrants; if there is a lot of people I will pay out to more places; suggestions for what you want are welcome).

SETUPS:
  • We can probably fit about 20 setups. Post if you are bringing something so I can keep track of how many setups will be available. If attendance explodes, more room can be made for setups as we have plenty of back rooms and spare tables/chairs to set up.
  • I don't know how playing Brawl on LCDs work, but if we can use the monitors somehow, let me know cause then no one would have to bring TVs. We have a bunch of 20" monitors with 5ms response time (works fine for Halo, but like I said, idk how it works with Brawl).

Brawl:
MLG ruleset.

Project M & Brawl+:
I don't have any of the stuff to set this up, but anyone who does is more than welcome to bring it.

Oh, I thought he was joking. lol Well there are still going to be Melee tournaments. I should be hosting another Melee one in July, maybe two. I will just put a Melee tourney before or after this one so they alternate. It's not like Melee is being reduced at all. I'm just going to host some Brawl tournaments on the weekends there aren't Melee. If I thought people would come every other weekend, I would host them that often.

If possible, try not to host anything on July 24. I'll be at this tournament.

[not troll]Also, if you want to make barlw fun, play Special Brawl with reflect status and heavy gravity on, and ban MetaKnight. It's like, gay projectile camping doesn't exist and comboes almost do exist. It's awesome.[/nottroll]

If anyone can help me figure out what I would need to hook up Wiis to the monitors without lag I would appreciate it. THIS is the model (I think, it looks exactly the same).

Thanks, and yeah, the monitors have VGA inputs. I've used VGA cables for Xboxes on the monitors, but I was looking around for official Nintendo VGA cables and couldn't find any. Why are they so **** expensive? The Xbox VGAs were like $5 per cable and most of the Wii VGAs are $20+.

Nintendo doesn't make any official VGA cables for wii (because there's almost no demand for them). But also, I has monies now so could you order 1 extra cable? I can pay for it with tax and shipping and the $8 I still owe you.

Yeah, I'll probably only be ordering like 5 max for $15 each. People will just have to bring other TVs, which shouldn't be a big problem. And don't worry about the $8, consider it thanks for recording almost all of the videos we have. lol I'm down for a MM however! I kinda wanna rematch your Peach since I lost to her at GG2, but you only went Zelda against me at GG3.

lol @ me turning this into the other thread. whoopsies.

I have a wii vga cable

it doesn't help with lag, its pretty much like component cables

You need a speaker set for sound if you do that though

I read somewhere that you made a lag comparison, which said

composite cable lag: 0.25 seconds
Component cable: 0.15 seconds
VGA cable: 0.01 seconds

That's a lot of help, unless you're changed your mind. I might have speakers for sound.

Sure Epsilon, I will MM you for it. Best of 7, first two matches are Project M. :D

On a more relevant note, I forgot I created an AllIsBrawl page for this tournament so make sure you list if you are attending or not. I know it's over a month away, but I was bored, so sue me.

Yes, I will be, but I'm not entering. I can only play barlw and enjoy it with heavy gravity, reflect status, and MetaKnight banned, which isn't the standard tournament rules. It's like camping is less broken, there's more reward for aggression, and a a God tier under these changes gets banned. Want to traditional money match under these rules?

Bones, You want to run the barlw Graphix Gaming tournament with my additional rules? The heavy gravity, status reflect, and MetaKnight banned rules? I really want to test out my ideas on how to improve competitive barlw, but the best way to test it is in a tournament with human players, not level 3 cpu players.

But also, if I'm going to record barlw, I want what I'm recording to be exciting. There are Melee scrubs out there, especially on youtube who think insulting barlw makes them cool. I think I have a few Melee scrubs as subscribers, but I'm not afraid of their unsubscriptions. Ok, that was a tanget, but my point is, since I have a good reputation on youtube among the Melee players, if I upload tournament videos of my ideas for tournament rules, I can communicate my ideas better. I can show Melee players, including Melee scrubs, that barlw can be a fun competitive game, which I believe.

But there is a major flaw if you go through with this. There will be a much less attendance with my rules. Nobody in competitive Melee likes anything that's not NTSC. Do you know how hated you can get for trying to play PAL? I ask to play PAL during Smashfests and when the tournament's over (for Sypher's tournaments), and I get insults for it. PAL is a very minor change compared to the changes I'm making to barlw. If you go through with this, good luck. Everyone in America is so desperate to win and get better to win.

No offense, but I'm pretty sure your ruleset would simply result in the tournament flopping. Especially with MLG settings out, that is what Brawl players are mostly focused on. I have no problem with you recording matches of people trying out your settings though. I barely have any real Brawl experience, but I'm sure some of the other players would at least play a few games on your settings. And if you are worried about uploading the regular Brawl videos on your account, you can just use the Graphix account and only upload the modified rules videos onto yours. Whatever is fine. Hell, if Brawl players are down for doing a free mini tourney for your rules we can do that too.

I have a suggestion myself Mr. Bones0. Is there anyway we could make this a brawl+ tourney. It's not so different from brawl that people would stop playing and the characters seem to be a bit more balanced.

Though I'm definitely still for the metaknight ban....

Yeah, if people want to bring Brawl+ that's totally fine. I just don't have a copy or know how to set it up. If you just have to download something and put it on an SD card I should probably try it though. Project M is a possibility too. Idk who has the alpha cause I heard only a few people do, but if someone brings that we can play that too. Basically anything you want to bring, just bring it and tell other people to come. lol

Just so people know, the SD card reader in my wii broke so it can't play Brawl mods.

Yeah it's easy enough to set up, usually you need homebrew and the gecko loader channel but they've made a way for you to do it without them too now.

There's probably a way to make them work off of usb as well, I'll see if I can find something.

Epsilon: I have (grudgingly) experimented more with Heavy/Reflect. Reflect is perfectly fine –*I have no complaints about that. Heavy, on the other hand, although it might make Zelda able to autocancel, everyone else who could can't. It gets rid of a lot of potential "combos" since Falcon can't AC DAir to knee (which is an actual combo sometimes!), for example. Secondly, the makes people with really good UTilts (Mario, Fox) way too good.
