MURDOC NICCALS SPEAKS:

Listen up, Landlubbers.....

After the debacle in the desert, I'm really looking forward to the colossus in Camden!!! Coachella was a washout due to the interfering efforts of US Immigration, but no-one can stop me getting to the Roundhouse for these gigs!! And this time we'll be playing with a full deck: we've got The Mos Def, The Hypnotic Brass, Shaun Ryder, Mark. E Smith...the works...Bobby Womack, Bashy & Kano, Little Dragon, The Syrian Orchestra...Gruff from the Super Furry Animals, Bootie Brown...De La Soul...Una Stubbs. This will be the concert to end them all! Best of all, it's being streamed LIVE, worldwide, on our very own Gorillaz.com! Sometimes I just have to touch myself. I'm TOO GOOD!

Experience Edition Owners:

Lastly and for all those of you who bought the Experience Edition of Plastic Beach, we will be uploading 4 exclusive tracks from the Roundhouse dates for your viewing pleasure. Simply login to your Plastic Beach Experience account and watch from the 5th May.
Based on lasts night performance, which we can assume will be mostly the same:
Setlist:- Orchestral Intro / Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach / Last Living Souls / O Green World / On Melancholy Hill / Kids With Guns / Stylo / Rhinestone Eyes / Broken / Empire Ants / Dirty Harry / White Flag / Superfast Jellyfish / DARE / Glitter Freeze / El Manana / Cloud Of Unknowing // Sweepstakes / To Binge / Feel Good Inc / Clint Eastwood

* The guest lineup was the same as Coachella except Mos Def, Kano, Bashy, Rosie Wilson and Shaun Ryder appeared as well.
* White Flag had an extended intro played just by The Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music, which was almost a standalone song
* Superfast Jellyfish had new visuals, a fast-cutting set of stills, mostly of closeups of fast food related images, with some occasional jellyfish images
* Murdoc appeared on the screen in the same way as Coachella (telling someone in the audience he could only get three of something, and hoping that would be okay)
* Sweepstakes had a fairground intro and outro, with Damon playing on piano and Mos freestyling like a ringmaster / fairground game operator
* Before Feel Good Inc, a short 3d animated clip of the Noodle Droid was shown, which was the finished version of the storyboard that can be seen on the 'Making Of' Plastic Beach DVD - i.e. the inner workings of the android's face were shown then the outer human face swung over it, closing the head.

Also, in other news, Plastic Beach is the first in a new Gorillaz trilogy:
http://www.spinner.com/2010/04/27/gorillaz-damon-albarn-plastic-beach-sequels/
While Gorillaz fans are enjoying the 16 new tracks on the group's third album, 'Plastic Beach,' mastermind Damon Albarn tells Spinner that he recorded enough during the sessions that could theoretically yield two 'Plastic Beach' sequels.

"I recorded an awful lot of music for this record, about 80 pieces of music in total," Albarns says. "So, theoretically there is a part two and part three of 'Plastic Beach' if we ever felt motivated to spend another few years finishing it. But because it's so eclectic, it takes a long time to actually get a picture because we don't start with a picture or an idea. We start with a very loose idea of 'Plastic Beach,' which you know probably means something different to me than it does to [artist] Jamie [Hewlett], but we evolve."

While Albarn concedes that the nature of Gorillaz is very whimsical in that nothing is ever premeditated, their recent headlining set at Coachella could be an indication that we'll get more Gorillaz output in the near future. "It's not just a studio band because it can work in front of 80,000 people," Albarn explains "But it's not a rock band, which is essentially traditionally how you communicate, but it has elements of rock in it. It's not hip-hop, but it has very strong hip-hop roots."

"It's this third album that we've finally figured out how to do it properly," Hewlett adds. "The second album, 'Demon Days,' those shows at the Apollo were great. But the first album, we didn't know what we were doing. That's how we do it now, definitely."

"It felt like in our evolution, [Coachella] was an epiphany," Albarn says. "In a way, what's on this record has only touched or scratched the surface of the period of work and the sort of adventures that we went on. It's some really out-there stuff, which hopefully will see the light of day at some point. This was as pop as I could make out of everything I had."
