A17
Smash Ace
No spoiling the story please.
Released March 16 2010 to North America, Europe on the 19th and Australia on 18th.
It has received 10 out of 10s by just about everyone, but an average of 9.5 or so.
It is a 3D platformer Hack-n-Slash game.
Developed by Sony Santa Monica.
Stig Ausmussen is the Game director of GOW3. He was a regular member of the dev team in GOW1, got promoted to Art Director in Gow 2 (which explains for the greater level of cinematics since he digs movies and video games), he got promoted again this time around and pretty much runs the Santa Monica team.
After three years of development and three very long years of waiting, the end is finally upon us. God of War III marks the finale to Kratos' search for revenge and properly caps off a trilogy that ranks near the very top of the best action games ever list. Yes indeed, everything does come to a complete and decisive close by the end, and though it may not be the last that we've seen of the franchise, this really is the end of this tale. - IGN
Prologue to the whole God of War (GOW) story, not GOW3 itself.
SPOILERS ALERT if you plan to play Gow 1 & 2, otherwise this is old stuff.

Story of GOW1
Back in GOW1 Kratos had lead an army of 50 which eventually grew to the thousands in quest of world domination (not really) until the name of the Spartans is known throughout the world. Eventually the Spartans went face to face with the Barbarians. They were facing defeat because the Barbarians' army was larger than the Spartans by about 3 or 4 times judging from the cutscene. Just before the Barbarian King was about to slam his hammer into Kratos, Kratos called out to Ares (the God of War) to grant him the power to destroy the Barbarians, but in return he would become his slave and do his dirty work forever. Ares agreed and gave him the Blades of Chaos (the swords on chains that burned into his arms, his primary weapon in GOW1), he defeats the Barbarians with his new weapon.
Now Ares' slave, Ares commands Kratos and his army to go out to kill people and destroy villages. Ares eventually points them to a specific village which contained his wife and child (Kratos doesn't know this). He kills everyone in the village temple, including wife and child. Ares wanted them dead so they wouldn't be distracting Kratos from Ares' will. Kratos, now pissed wants to seek revenge and repent for doing those bad deeds. Years he had been experiencing nightmares every night about the night he had killed his wife. He believed servicing the other gods in an attempt for forgiveness would wipe away those nightmares. GOW1 kicks off with Athena telling you about Ares destroying Athens (Athena's City) and that he has to stop. She wanted Kratos to do it because Gods can't wage war with each other thanks to Zeus. With the help of the Gods and Pandora's Box, Kratos confronts and kills Ares. Kratos was confused as to why his nightmares still don't go away even completing the task given by Athena. He had misheard what she said that he was forgiven, but the nightmares could not be taken away. Like Forgiving but NOT Forgetting. Kratos all depressed, decides to commit suicide but jumping off Mt. Olympus to run away from his nightmares. Athena prevents him from killing himself and grants him the God of War throne. This concludes GOW1.
Story of GOW2
Now the officially titled as the God of War, Kratos goes out destroying cities at his will ( i personally believe he did it because he was bored of sitting on that throne 24/7)
. Athena told him to stop because she's running out of excuses for taking the blame for his actions. Kratos ignores and joins in on the destruction. Athena and Zeus seek to take away his power due to abuse, sorta like an Admin taking away the power of a Moderator here on SWF. Zeus, in the form of a bird zaps him while he was using pandora's box which makes him go godzilla size). He loses his power of Pandora's Box and starts to shrink back to his regular size. Not knowing it was Zeus who zapped him,he thought it was Athena who took away his power of the Pandora's box. Later on, Zeus the bird zaps the huge brass statue known as Colossus and gives it life and is commanded to kill Kratos. Kratos makes his way to a piazza-balcony-like area where Zeus shot the Blade of Olympus from the sky to give to Kratos to defeat Colossus. Kratos still doesn't realize Zeus was the one who zapped him and the colossus. Zeus tells him to transfer all his godly power to the blade so that it'll pack enough of a punch to beat Colossus. Kratos does this and blows up the Colossus. Kratos, feeling himself, gets arrogant and starts showing off to the gods that he can take out anything he's hit with. While that's happening the falling collossus makes final attempt to smack Kratos to the ground with a big hand. He gets crushed, the blade of olympus slips out of his hand, and now Kratos is hurt, bleeding and seriously injured, meaning he's not a god anymore since gods are immortal. Zeus shows himself and takes the blade before kratos reaches it. Zeus holding that now-powerful sword kills kratos.
After speaking with Gaia, The titan of the Earth, he is motivated to kill Zeus for tricking him and taking away his power. Gaia as well as the other titans support him for wanting to get revenge on the Gods. The tale of the Great war unfolds, where the Gods went to war with the Titans at one point. The gods won and now all the Titans are banished to suffer for eternity, Atlas holding up the Earth, for example. Kratos on his journey defeats more foes, gains a golden fleece (which is essentially the parry system from gow1), and rips the wings from Icarus and keeps it, now he can glide. With new weapons, he heads towards Zeus and pretty much defeats him, until Athena comes to intercept and take a stab for Zeus. She reveals to him that killing Zeus meant all other Gods will come to an end. Zeus, injured runs away with the "this isn't over" statement, and Kratos is all determined to destroy the Gods anyway. He convinces Gaia and the other Titans to join up and climb Mt. Olympus to help defeat the rest of the gods and Zeus himself. This is where GOW2 ends and where GOW3 begins.
