Hello, all! For those that don't know me, I'm Virg. I moderate things. I'm also in charge of the newly founded Discussion Leader group and I had an idea sprout in my head not too long ago.

Every individual character board is quite different and many are truly contrasting. Seeing as how I'm tasked with encouraging discussion and help throughout the boards, I thought that maybe encouraging some similar layouts on each board would help new people (or board hermits) that eventually strolled into other boards. Not that they would get lost, but just that it would be easier and the process alone would be gratifying.

So with that, I'm here for a proposition (not of that kind!): a reformatting and update of the character guide, if it needs one. I see a lot of good threads that appear to be kept up to date: you guys would probably be helping other characters with the Pikachu match up more than anything else. But I digress.

So for those of you that don't want to read: I would like to try to get every character board to clean up and organize their character board guides/stickies. Some are fine as is...like yours!. Others...not so much. I'm asking this for a shot of dialogue and cross communication throughout the boards as well as making the stickies less cluttersome.

So, what do you guys say? This is all voluntary. Just wanted to try to spruce the boards up a bit. If you have any opinions or questions, I'd be happy to hear them :)

I love our sticky layout :) I think every other board should have stickies similar to ours ^_^ We don't get too many new threads saying "Plz critique my Pika" or "How do I play against ____" anymore since our stickies are the answer to those threads.

I think the other boards should start QACing more.

But that's just my humble opinion.

Actually, I'm quite happy with the way our board is laid out. It took some time, but everything stickied I think should be stickied. All of the links below our character matchup chart look kind of ugly the way they are, but other than that I'm very happy.

Considering our guide is the one linked in Virg's post across every character board, I think ours is fine. It does need to be updated, though. I'll get to that when I can.

We already did this a few months ago, and now that we kicked K_2 out of all the OPs we are now getting them up to date. Gallax, work on those Matchup threads!

Guide doesn't need MUCH reformatting, but I suppose giving a vague region of the hitbox would be nice.

Yes, I am all for this, and would love to help in any and all ways I can. This is actually something I've wanted to see - but, I don't really have the authority to start such things in motion, so I'm very happy to see this!

I concur. I think the links need to be removed. There's no need for them with our matchup chart how it is.

Also, that said, I would be more than willing to write a short guide on how I made a clickable matchup chart like we have. I've already had another board ask me about how I did it, and I think it's a very clean way to represent things - I would really like to see it adopted on all of the other boards =)

What you mean? As in, for each move, list where the hitbox is?

Ex:
Utilt - Pika's tail.
Fsmash - Bolt of electricity from Pika's cheeks.

Something like that? Just clarifying.

i cleaned up the matchup thread a little to make it look nicer. I would like to do something special in the end to it, but until kitt22 makes me the new chart i dont want to take the original links out.

I'll get started on this today. If you could send me the most recent set of match up numbers that would be great. There was some discussion about changing how it looked, but nothing concrete was agreed upon, so I'll just be using the same graphics. I would also prefer to get rid of the stupid ratios, and just use digits instead - I don't know if this is something I can talk the whole board into though. They're really not that hard to understand, they're like matchup numbers but more accurate and less confusing.

At any rate, before I get started, is there anything anyone whould like to see in the new chart? Mostly, I just figured I change the order so that it matches up with the new teir list. (also, I'll make sure to update the links for all the new discussion threads which have been posed).

Meow.

Edit: just to clarify, I think that the numbers which look like this: 4.5, are better than the ratios which look like this: 45:55.

Yeah, I really prefer the number system. I just think it's over all better than the ratio system. Basically, I'd really like to display only one set of numbers, and not have to display two. If everyone is okay with the numbers, I'd be more than happy to nix the ratios =)

As we're going through all the matchups again, this might be a great time to convert as well - we can just start picking out numbers from now on instead of ratios.

As far as I understand, the number essentially work like this: Higher number means tougher matchup, lower number means easier matchup, 5.0 means exactly even. So, for example, the snake matchup might be 4.8/4.9 - essentially even, but ever so slightly in pikachu's favor.

Also, this means that the numbers would line up like this: 50:50 = 5.0; 45:55 (in their favor) = 5.5; 55:45 (in our favor) = 4.5; 60:40 (in their favor) = 6.0; 70:30 (in their favor) = 7.0; And so on. The only real difference is that we can make slight distinctions between similar match ups.

Edit: That said, if people still aren't happy displaying only the numbers, I'd rather you send me both sets so we can put them both on their again. But if we can, I think it's just overall better to display only the number. I'll also include a scale thing in the chart explaining how the numbers work as well, so it should be easy to understand quickly.

You should do both because people will complain if you only have one of the numbers.

Also, the point of the numbers was NOT to do the matchup ratio. That is the difficulty. You can have an advantage in THEORY, but in application it is much harder.

Personally, if people are too thick to understand that "higher number means harder matchup", then any complaints about the system being "different" should be treated as spam. It's not hard to get, and anyone complaining about it just whining, IMHO.

Also, even if we just stick x.0 and x.5, I still think the numbers are a little clearer. Still to this day I get confused about who's favor a match up is in if it's listed as something like 40:60; who has the 40 and who has the 60? But a 4.0 (or is it 6.0?) is much clearer.

Also, even if we don't use the precision of number system allows all of the time, we can still use it in certain situations, like what I said about snake. I think most people agree - at least from what i've read - that the pikachu-snake match up is ever so slightly in pikachu's favor, but not enough to warrant a 45:55. The numbers system could make note of things like this if they occur. If they don't, then there's nothing wrong with sticking to x.0 and x.5 numbers.

Edit: As a side note, I do have a radically different Idea for displaying match ups - break them into tiers - so we have: "super hard", "hard", "even", "easy" and "super easy" tiers, and then characters are organized within their difficulty teir. There are a lot of pros to this kind of set up. Though, something tells me I'm not gonna be able to sell everyone on that idea. People don't really like to change *rolls eyes*

The tiers themselves are already on our matchup table, based on the colors shown.
ppl seem to like knowing how characters do against characters with high tourney rankings, but I think it would be nice to be able to quickly see the characters that pika has the most trouble with. That way the order of chars in the table doesn't need to change as often, either.

Yes, the color system I used (Red/Orange/Yellow/Light Green/Green) is the sort of thing I was talking about when I mentioned tiers - except perhaps organized in a more accurate fashion than they are now (I've just split the colors evenly among the whole range of numbers).

I'll try a draft of it, and post my result, and see what everyone thinks. It would certainly portray a lot of information at just a glance.
