I feel like this is something that most players overlook, including myself. What's the best way to start incorporating this (i.e. just run up to someone and spot dodge?). I feel like spot dodging skillfully would be huge in helping destroy most new/intermediate players.

Getting more use out of the spot dodge

Some characters have really good spot dodges. Spacies and sheik come to mind off the bat. Spotdodge shine or spotdodge ftilt/grab (sheik) on getup can be good. I don't think its something you should attempt all the time though since it can be punished with patience and spacing. Unless you're Borp, in which case spot dodge away.
