This past week, my neighbor was busted for possession of child pornography.

He was a teacher at the local middle school, and nearly everybody who had him said they loved his class. Nobody would've ever guessed that he was into this. I'm just glad that I never knew the guy, because it must be awkward for the people around here who did know him. He had hundreds of images on his computer and the FBI tracked him when he engaged in a child-porn chat room with an undercover agent.

Now he is the butt of all the jokes here, and the fact that he coached the girls' sports team at the school doesn't help his rep either. He could be in jail for up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine, though I doubt he'll get all of it.

A few hours after the event, some friends of mine drove down to a restaurant around here and, of course, were interviewed by the local news station, since a few of them had this teacher. The one time I don't go with them, they get to be on TV! Despite the fact that nobody really cares about the local news channel around here, it's still pretty cool.

Pretty much, I'm wondering if anyone here has had their 15 seconds/minutes of fame. Even if nobody but you and your friends cared, post 'em.

Or you could just talk about your experiences with pedophiles, doesn't really matter.

There was a registered sex offender on my road, growing up... we would TP his house, then **** a brick when his sensor light would turn on.

This guy sounded like an alright guy with an unfortunate sexual taste. Like you said, everyone enjoyed his lessons and he never did anything to harm anyone he came in contact with. While supporting child porn is obviously a terrible thing, the stigmatism this guy is getting is worse than his actual wrong-doings in my opinion.

Yes I just defended a paedophile.

Well, I've been on the news a couple of times. The first time was when a massive wind storm swept through my town about 11 years ago, and knocked down a bunch of trees which took out the power all over the place and destroyed some houses. School was canceled because there was no power, so my best friend and I were hanging out playing street hockey in my driveway when a news crew drove up in their van and asked if they could film us to show what kids (i was in fourth or fifth grade at the time) were doing on their day off. They also interviewed my dad about the roof repairs he was quoting for people around town (he's a roofer). So I got on TV for that.

Another time a different news crew was doing a story on something regarding one of the rinks in town, I really don't remember what, but they filmed my hockey team's practice and interviewed our coaches and some players, including myself as I was the captain that year.

And I also managed to get my photo in the Burlington Free Press once. They ran an article about a ski competition I was in, and the picture was of me mid-flip going off a kicker in the middle of a mogul field.

I also got interviewed by NPR while skiing at Lost Valley in Maine about my thoughts on global warming regarding the ski industry, but I was drunk at the time and don't remember what I said.

I think if you add all of those up, I'm actually getting pretty close to my "15 minutes of fame." I actually never really thought about how many times I've been in the media, but it's pretty cool.

I was thinkin' the exact same thing. I'm kinda feeling bad for the guy, it doesn't sound like he ever did anything to any kids. I'm thinking he may have been trying his best to take the lesser of two evils road to his tastes. Kinda sad, really.

Still, maybe he was a horrible man.

Still, it's some food for thought, and has given me some ideas for some comics... I needed some inspiration!* ^^

-------------------------------------------------

As for 15 seconds of fame, I've never been on TV, but the amount of "WOAH CRAZY" stuff I do at school gives me bursts of fame from time to time, or until Jamie one-ups me.

Almost a competition. ^^

Back in January, my AP US History teacher from Junior year and also one of my football coaches got arrested for trying to solicit sex from a minor online.

When I first saw your post, Marshigio, I thought maybe you lived near me, since the story is almost the same. He exposed himself online to an undercover agent and also was the coach of a girls' sports team (softball).

Odd.

My friend made national headlines with a semitic speech she made for her valedictorian speech. Her topic was 'inspiration' and she said that God was her inspiration. Good enough until the speech kind of veered off into a mini-sermon and her microphone was cut. Parents and students were furious chanting "LET HER SPEAK!". These people were being escorted by security and people booed the principal for the rest of the graduation ceremony. By the end of the week my friend even appeared on The Today Show.

It's funny though, our group would always argue who would get famous after high school, and she couldn't even wait until she got handed her diploma. I still tell her she cheated.

And if anybody wants I can post the youtube link.

My Dad's rental car was stolen and I jumped in front of the camera.

Unfortunately, my sister overtaped the movie with "The Faculty" on HBO.

While I would agree, I stop at the point where he has child porn. While he himself may have never touched a child, he certainly endorsed situations where children were possibly put into bad situations.

I also lol at people going to public chat rooms for this ****. That's just asking to be caught.

Yeah, my friends and I used to do stupid things like that all the time. Neighbor of choice was a lonely alcoholic who pretty much stopped caring. Arsenal included homemade bombs and **** in a box.

...

So lucky our neighbors didn't get us back like we deserved.

Definitely an interesting way to look at it. No matter the case, he won't be remembered for his activism in the community, instead everyone will just identify him as, "that pedophile" from now on. Then again, we can only feel so bad for a pedophile. It's twisted both ways, eh?

Nah, I live in NJ right now, but believe it or not, one of the football coaches here was caught in his office, and though it was never officially said why, everyone still had an idea :p. Man, that's weird.

I remember being linked to a youtube video (I think it might have been on this site, actually)of a guy running around in a ***** costume, so yeah, that counts.

Congrats to Mugquomp, crosser43 and diabetic_yoshi's friend for living up to the 15 second/minute challenge!

This is post 1,984, I may never have a more amazing post count.

My Japanese teacher was the 2007 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. I got interviewed when a news channel came in to film the class.

I honestly didn't have my 15 seconds of fame yet, unless you count the time when a demented old person who lived on my block fell into a hole that her neighbor was digging... In the news broadcast they showed the corner of my house.

I guess you could count the time when I was in 5th grade, and one kid in my class's dad worked for the WB news, and the class got to go to the WB building. On the news that day they showed a short clip of us just standing there, and you could see me behind one kid's massive head. I still don't consider that "Fame," though.

I've never had a 15 minutes of fame. My school's been on the local news for whatever little reasons. (Some girl set a fire in a bathroom, some teacher made some school shooting hoax up, etc.) But, that's not much of anything.

I agree with this one. As taboo as it is to defend pedophiles, I would have to do that very thing. I don't have those tastes myself, but I have met a few people, friends of mine, who have tastes for the younger sort. From what they've told me, it's something they can't control, it's a side of them they wish didn't exist and they like people who are appropriately-aged more than kids. They aren't demons or evil or people who wish to cause children harm. I do agree that child porn is wrong as it supports children being in harm, but there's a difference between the people I know and those "child molesters and rapists". Just a thought.

I would have to disagree with this. Even though he may have not acted out on his fantasies and abused any children, he enabled others to do so. Children were sexual abused to make that porn. It’s simple supply and demand. As long as someone wants something there will be someone to provide it to them. His interest in this material directly lead to a child being sexually abused. It is not a victimless crime.

Here, there and everywhere.
When I was five I was on my local news channel because the the school was closing down and they were interviewing my teacher on his views.

Apparently I just stood in the background picking my nose O_o ahahaha what a cutie:laugh:

I also got on the news once at the Royal Air Tattoo aircraft show with my friends being asked how we felt about the show, and all I could talk about was meeting Michael Fish (Weatherman) heheheheheheheheh

And I was once on the radio when i was 12 and was asked "So what's your favourite part of the East of England show?" to which i replied "The free stuff :D"

I swear I'm not a loser x
