Here's a dark horse candidate for you.
John Tanner is the main protagonist of the Driver series of video games from Ubisoft (the same company that makes Rayman). Tanner is the main protagonist of Driver, Driver 2, Driver 3, Driver: San Francisco, and Driver: Renegade 3D, all of which have versions for Nintendo consoles (or in the latter's case, was exclusively on the 3DS).
He could certainly be a worthwhile candidate for Smash if Rayman were in as well, allowing Ubisoft 2 representatives.
