Odd question, but is it possible for me to use a 3DS to connect and play?

Is there doubles for smash 4?
Not quite yet unfortunately, maybe in the future. We do have a Melee Doubles side event at 5 PM though, starting this week!

Yes, technically, but I prefer you don't as if you are finished playing but your 3ds is still connected to the TV it can be a huge hassle.

I can quite understand that, but me being poor, I don't really have the luxury to purchase a Wii U so all I have is a New 3DS XL. I've been into several locals and they're fine with 3DS(s).

I'm sure its fine, and if you want to use a gamecube controller and just dont have one, tons of people are fine with letting you use their controller.

I've been there a couple times and they've been getting around 10-15 people every week.
Its actually gone up recently, weve had at least 15-20 in the past few weeks. You can see all entrants at challonge.com/users/writerofwrong

Hey guys, Tuck here, thanks so much everyone for coming out tonight! That was the best turnout we have ever had. I have a lot of good news and a lil bit of temporary bad news.
Good news, we are adding TWO new events to Geneva Smash! Smash 4 Doubles will be starting on Thursdays at 5 PM, just like Melee! So if you want to catch doubles, come at around 4:30! And also, Project M is here! it will be held on Sundays at 2 PM!
Now, unfortunately since I am going on vacation there will be no stream until next week's Smash 4 Tournament. The tournaments are still going on, you just cannot watch them from home. :(
