Genesis Saga Preview: The 2GG Championship Series Begins feat. ZeRo, MKLeo, Dabuz and more

On January 14, the $100,000 2GG Championship Series will begin with 2GGC: Genesis Saga. The first in a monthly series of events, it will have competitors duke it out at Southern California's eSports Arena for a $2,000 pot bonus and a slot at the 2GG Championship in December. Since it is happening one week before Genesis 4 (hence the name), the first international major of the year, expect to see some of the world's best in attendance.

Here's everything you need to know about Genesis Saga, including its stream information, schedule and notable players present.

Stream and Schedule
Genesis Saga will primarily be streamed on 2GGaming's Twitch channel, as with all of the organization's events. Fire and Dice Games' Twitch channel will act as the event's secondary stream.

The event schedule can be found on the table below:

Start Time (in PST) | Event
10 AM | Doubles
12 PM | Singles Pools
4 PM | Top 48
6 PM | Top 8
9 PM | Special Event

The Big Guns
Name | Team | Character(s) | Description
Leonardo " MKLeo " Perez | MVG and EF | :4marth::4metaknight::4cloud2: | Mexico's MKLeo has a lot to prove at Genesis Saga given that he is the game's current champion. The wunderkind, fresh off a victory at 2GGT: ZeRo Saga and an Echo Fox sponsorship, is understandably the man to beat for everyone at the event.
Gonzalo " ZeRo " Barrios | TSM | :4diddy:| For ZeRo, Genesis Saga is a chance at redemption. While many were betting on him to break the 2GGT Saga curse of players losing tournaments named after themselves at 2GGT: ZeRo Saga, he was eliminated in 4th place by MKLeo. Should Smash Wii U 's former champion take this event, he will once again become everyone's primary target.
Rei " Komorikir " Furukawa | 2GG | :4sonic::4cloud2:| Representing the team behind Genesis Saga is Japan's Komorikiri. Ranked 1st in Japan, his expertise with Cloud and Sonic can be seen in his recent results, which include 3rd and 7th place finishes at The Big House 6 and 2GGT: ZeRo Saga respectively. 2017 marks the start of his one-and-a-half year break from school, which means he has to make every tournament, including this, count.
James " VoiD " Makekau-Tyson | CLG |:4sheik: | VoiD, the best Sheik in North America, is heading into Genesis Saga on the heels of his strongest year yet. In 2016, the Hawaiian-turned-Californian finished within the top 8 of every tournament he attended save for 2GGT: Mexico Saga. Despite this, he still hasn't won anything larger than a super regional. Could Genesis Saga be the first national under his belt?
Samuel " Dabuz " Buzby| RNG | :rosalina:| Arguably the best Rosalina specialist in the world, Dabuz's surgical playstyle is a sight to behold at every tournament he attends. Having won last week's Kumite in Tennessee, a super regional, he is entering Genesis Saga with the intent of gathering all the momentum he can before Genesis 4.

The curse will continue if none of the people who won a Genesis event win this one.

So in this case just ZeRo.

I agree. Tyrant in particular is criminally underrated.
I think his Zero Saga performance showed how good he was. Rich Brown is just really good, and Dath is Dath. He did amazing at Shine and is an amazing Robin player that has beaten some of the best, or has at least gone to a last hit situation. Can't wait to see Dabuz though! MK Leo too.

Rich Brown has long been overdue for a sponsor. The dude is a top 30 player IMO.

Javi is absurdly underrated, might make top 8 tbh
Javi still hasn't performed well internationally. I believe in him though and should he place well here, we'll make a special mention for him in the Genesis 4 Smash Wii U preview. His Cloud is crisp tho.
