So I'm debating on going. I have a chance of getting a ride with a small group heading down with Brick (Pikachu main)... But after calculating costs (externalities to the plane ticket included, which is already 100 dollars more with me ordering it earlier in order to actually make it to the tourney)....

700 dollar Plane ticket (Grandmother would pay for it, but jesus, that's a lot)
60 dollars gas
45 dollars for entrance and singles
5-10 dollars a night at the hotel x's 3 nights (assuming split costs are correct)
20 dollars for food (if I eat light)
60 dollars gas for the ride back (potentially)
~= 915 dollars, with 700 of it taken care of by my grandmother.. But that's still 200-215 dollars for one damn tournament... not to mention losing my trust with my grandparents over wasting money again on a video game tournament while they're helping pay for my college.

I mean, my grandmother is fine with it...But that's less time I get to spend with them, and then my grandfather is going to give me an ear-full, and potentially not help me as much this year with my college funds.

now that I see this 200 dollar price tag, along with 100 extra dollars on to my plane ticket (even though I'm going to Cali anyways)... I'm starting to have second thoughts...

Ugh. I am going to go to Cali anyways and she's paying for my ticket to VISIT with them, that's what I mean. But to add on 100 dollars more for her to pay for just to go, yes, it feels like I'm taking advantage.

I dont think it's too much Mike, considering they're willing to drive at least an hour and a half outta the way to pick me up altogether.

But regardless, I feel like I am not prepared, really... I'm still gunna think on it, and Brick wants me to go, but ****... I think I'd rather go to a big EC tourney for less and visit my buddy LilZero at the same time.

EDIT: Just so you guys know, I'm 21 without a job but full-time college student. That's why it's important I save my money, because I don't have an income. Sad.

20 dollars for food (if I eat light)
How is this even humanly possible. Even a featherweight like myself couldnt survive on $20 worth of food for 3 days...

And for your sake I hope you calculated those room split rates properly, since an awful amount of people are finding out that leaving reservations till the last minute is costing them a lot more than normal.

And those gas costs do seem outrageous... Especially since you would be splitting the hotel with them, they need to consider the money they save by having you pay a share for the room before charging you for the gas as if that is the only money they will get from you.

portland or to eureka ca to antioch ca

Type that on google maps and you can see why I would respect them charging me 55 for gas. Brick says the hotel they have has 8 people in it, and I am guessing it's gotta be between 5 to 15 per person per night depending on the cost (which from the original thread it was like 79 dollars a night I thought)

with 4-5 people in the car, each paying 50 in gas... me paying 55 because he's picking me up from Eureka... Thats 200 dollars from his party. Is that a bit much?

Brick, if you're around here, go ahead and give me your input too. I really am mostly sticking my head out here because I don't have a clue about the costs of transportation and stuff.

You're right about the food though, I eat like a rat still. I think 20 a night would be more realistic.

Holy ****, 700 dollar plane ticket?

You shouldn't go if its gonna cost you that much money just to get to a tournament.

Some people certainly wouldn't, Tesh. It all depends on if you're looking to make money or just share a new experience with people. If you're looking to win money, stop playing Smash.

Genesis is bound to be an awesome time, and I'd love to meet you, Krys. If you feel attending hurts some other aspect of your life though, don't go. Smash is just a game and should never outprioritize more important aspects of your life.

I hate to say it 'cuz you've probably already been told this, and it sounds hokey, but do whatever your heart tells you to do.

Ouch, that's tough. I agree with Zig Zag. If your grandparents are flying you out to see them, I personally wouldn't go. I'd literally throw up in guilt.

What you do is your buissnes, and you should make the choice by yourself, but if this is what you love doing, and you can make it work with your grandparents, then you should go. We all want you to go, but if it hurts personal aspects of your life, just go to a local tourney for a few hours. =/

Well it depends on how long you are staying there also i mean if you stay out there for like 2 weeks i dont think it'd be too bad if it wont cost them much more.

But the problem with going would be it's possible affects on your morals. You will have to rationize why you will go or basically make up an excuse to make you feel better about yourself because we all want to feel good about ourselfes and your morals could loosen in maybe a way in the future you may not respect.

But really you only gave us enough so we'd tell you what you want to be told because you don't want to deciede yourself. How i see it is knowledgely and morally break it down yourself and figure out yourself what's right and wrong maybe you'll be a little more confident in your own choices.

Also look at it this way either way you will get something. Chill

Yeah. Im thinkin of just going to see them. I really dont want to hurt not only my trust and chances of getting help for college, but also my relationship with my grandfather more importantly. My grandmother will support whatever I do financially wise, but my grandfather would be pissed to learn that I'm going to a tournament while out there.
