Slime Knight
Today's a double feature!
Yuji Horii speaks!
Yep, on the American website!
Talking about Dragon Quest obviously, answering a few stock questions and thanking people for support. He also says there's more to come, though since this morning the translation has been updated to say for Mobile... Still, this is awesome news, and alot of people are taking this as the place to go to pledge support for more Dragon Quest localisations (along with the Operation Hero petition of course).
And if that was awesome enough, get out! then there's some more SE localisation musings:
Dragon Quest X Love
Nothing's certain yet, and they're still in the 'working out the finances' stage, but much like with VII letting our voices be heard is probably a good start!
I still feel DQX has the stuff to be one of the most successful MMOs, even in the west, just because it has everything it needs to hollow out it's own niche in the MMO environment, and an amazing (and one that's becoming even more banded together and welcoming thanks to Operation Hero and the like) community backing it. Heck, I think if it was marketed right it could rival WoW because it's different enough to split the market and grab a bunch of the people who want to leave WoW, the teamwork need to quell the old guard who are sticking to AC1, EQ and the like because WoW has poisoned the waters (and I think the lack of auto-regen will really interest a bunch of them), a good chunk of the FFXI fans who didn't enjoy XIV, Nintendo fans because it'll be on Wii U/3DS, AND jRPG fans who are interested in seeing how an MMO would work with jRPG-esque mechanics (either FF Online barely has any shred of jRPG left in them, though XI's at least has some more Final Fantasy tropes in it...).
But, the marketting budget would need to be huge, and it'd be a risk that the rkets it can tempt move over/stay around... so I wouldn't try to compete with WoW, just be it's own thing with enough niche appeal for a loyal following; and it can do that easily! Heck, thanks to it's pseudo-turn-based game play it could handle it on fewer servers as it doesn't need to mitigate ping as much as pretty much any other MMORPG.
But hey, this is Square Enix, so that probably just makes too much sense for them...
Still, as with pretty much everything recently, this is good news; I think we'll be seeing results sometime soon (though to be fair if you asked me last year I'd've said we'd be getting announcements for them this year... though I guess we have with the mobile games, and there's still time for them to give us DQ fans a Christmas present...)
Either way, if you haven't already please join Operation Hero in messaging Square Enix and commenting on the Yuji Horii Blog Post mentioned above. You can Like on Facebook for more info, and remember to sign the petition.
Thankyou.
