Hey there ValiantNorth here from Gatineau Smash - We've been playing as a group of people out of a small location in Gatineau, Quebec. I personally know people In the area who play and enjoy playing (Of all skill levels) and we have slowly made ourselves into a group. We wanted to share our little community as an open event to other smash players in the Gatineau area! Ottawa is not always easily accessible so we want people to have an alternative.
We want to host events for players to come test their skills against others in competition against locals! We accept French players as well, although a majority of are english so having a basic grasp is alright. I'm the Organizer and I speak perfect french and english so feel free to come by even if you speak french!
We currently play Melee and SSB64 every Friday night from 6.PM to 10.PM and we're usually around 6 or more. Most of our players are beginner-mid skill level, so this should be a great place for Gatineau players to sharpen their skills before heading over to Ottawa.
I wanted to open up this thread for anyone interested in stopping by one of our events. If you're an Ottawa player we probably won't allow you to come due to our currently low player capacity at the location we are using. Once we find a bigger stable venue we will certainly accommodate any Ottawa/Ontario players. We just want to make it fair for locals to get a chance to play somewhere close to them.

Friday Night Smash (Weekly)
We host a weekly Super Smash Bros. Melee event with tracked stats and possible event rewards and prize money, they are done in a Double Elimination tournament style. Weeklies are free to join but we also use our Friday night events to host other side-attractions like High/Low-Roller Nights (10$/20$ pool entry with a huge split), Mini tournaments for Free Steam Game prizes, and tons of other great stuff!
We track all players stats via our Facebook page's 'Files' section. There you will be able to see your progression against other players in the Gatineau area. We do not use Power Rankings since Ottawa is RIGHT beside us and they use Power Rankings... and they probably have higher level players anyways.

Gatineau Smash Invitational (Monthly)
We host a Monthly event usually on a Saturday/Sunday once a month, when this event happens Friday Night Smash may be cancelled in preparation. This event is reserved for the top 10 bracketed players, if our current bracket has less than 10 top players available to attend, wildcard slots will be made public for players who were not invited. Entry fee is 10$ with a 60/30/10 split. (We do 3rd place returns )
The event is usually held during the day and may start anywhere from 11AM~6PM. The facebook page's event section will always have the latest information so be sure to check that out, spectators are welcome but we won't allow people to have extra setups - Only commissioned setups will be allowed to be played on.
Double leaderboard points are awarded for Monthlies matches, players start off in a preliminary Swiss Round robin to determine seeding placements. Then a double elimination tournament takes place based on the position of players in the preliminary round. Matches start off best of 3 until Semifinals and Finals where they become Best of 5.
