ITT: Even the lord of all darkness needs backup, when it comes to Brawl anyway.

Ganon is the **** tier of this game, but he's highly under-rated as a character. Despite this, he finds it especially hard to fight projectile users, especially on Final Destination and Norfair. A solid secondary is needed for Ganondorf mainers to succeed, maybe even a third main. Four?

I created this thread for the discussion of who Ganon boards think is the best choice for secondary mains for Ganondorf. I'd like intellectual input put please express yourself as you see fit.

Ganon Matchups;

Ganon's number to the left, Opponent's to the right.

Bowser; 40-60
Captain Falcon; 50-50
Charizard; 40-60
Diddy Kong; 20-80
Donkey Kong; 40-60
Falco; 10-90
Fox; 30-70
Game&Watch; 20-80
Ganon; 50-50
Ice Climbers; 0-100
Ike; 40-60
Ivysaur; 40-60
King DeDeDe; 30-60
Kirby; 40-60
Link; 35-65
Lucario; 25-65
Lucas; 35-65
Luigi; 35-65
Mario; 35-65
Marth; 20-80
Meta Knight; 15-85
Ness; 35-65
Olimar; 10-90
Peach; 35-65
Pikachu; 15-85
Pit; 25-75
ROB; 25-75
Samus 25-75
Sheik 05-95
Snake; 30-70
Sonic; 40-60
Squirtle; 35-65
Toon Link; 35-65
Wario; 20-80
Wolf; 30-70
Yoshi; 15-85
Zelda; 35-65
Zero Suit Samus; 30-70

As you can see we have 6 main problems and need a secondary or two that can at least cope with them all. They are Falco, Ice Climbers, Meta Knight, Olimar, Sheik and Yoshi. We shall discuss characters who can go near even with them all, whilst complimenting Ganondorf as a secondary main. Please don't include MK in this discussion as he's a bit too obvious. Lulz.

Ice Climbers; 0-100
Ike; 40-60
Ivysaur; 40-60
King DeDeDe; 30-60 85-15. Dedede can camp way too easily, goes down way too hard and one grab = 50+ damage for Ganon. Plus, he can gimp Ganon with great ease.
Kirby; 40-60
Link; 35-65
Lucario; 25-65
Lucas; 35-65
Luigi; 35-65
Mario; 35-65
Marth; 20-80
Meta Knight; 15-85I'm being a little pedantic, but I'm picky about the MK MU. I'd say it's 90-10.
Ness; 35-65
Olimar; 10-90
Peach; 35-6575-25. Peach is arguably the hardest character in this game for Ganon to punish. Her float makes her able to constantly weave in and out of his attack range, punish him and most of her attacks > Ganon's. Her priorty and turnips make Ganon play hell trying to even get near her.
Pikachu; 15-85 75-25. Pikachu doesn't really have anything that cripples Ganon, he's just generally very tough.
Pit; 25-75
ROB; 25-75
Samus 25-75
Sheik 05-95
Snake; 30-70
Sonic; 40-60
Squirtle; 35-65
Toon Link; 35-65
Wario; 20-80
Wolf; 30-70
Yoshi; 15-85 75-25. Yoshi's a major ***-pain, but his infinite is all he's got that's truly threatening. Aside from his infinite, he's just incredibly annoying and fast.
Zelda; 35-65
Zero Suit Samus; 30-70

Ganon doesn't need secondaries. He's too good. Pure Ganon is the only way you'll ever be a true man! Also, I'm not sure where you got those MU ratios from, but a lot of them are a little spacey. I'm gonna throw in my two cents for a few of them.

I agree that Pure Ganon is all man.

Most people who use Ganon would wimp out of him for most MUs, but I'm only trying for those 6 matches in extreme cases.

Plus, this thread is promoting some activity and discussion.

Sorry, made my edit =V
I honestly think Ganon only wins any MU by outplay, which isn't exactly easy lol

Yes, he can out play most MUs. That's when the person gets cocky and thinks 'Hurr durr Ganon. Imma **** him' and starts approaching. If someone is clever enough to force Ganon to do the approaching, he's ****ed. The best mindgame Ganon has, is that people know he's ****, and instantly assume that means you can get up close and dominate him, which is very wrong.

I, i just camp people out and start punishing what they do for attempting approach.
Unless it's some out-campy char. like Falco or Snake, i wait for them to make the first move towards me. then start going.
If i try to run in, i just get rammed.

Hearing that, on people like Falco, i approch with shield and bait a SHL > DA, and i try an OoS Ftilt or OoS SH-Dair.
You also reply very very fast lol

Thanks.

Anyway, furthering the point of this thread. You win R1 against your opponent, successfully striking out to get Battlefield, then ban Norfair like you should. They CP Final Destination as Falco or Diddy or something. You're screwed. This is why I think Ganon needs a secondary.

If this is based on the MU, i'd go with IC's on that, they're best stage IS FD i'm sure.

**** IC ditto >_<
Well, stuck flat, i'd go in with Falco.
He isn't as prone to Diddy's nana **** as Ganon(Obv.) and his work done against anyone else seems quite legit.

Ah, I'm not very good sir. I'm more of a poster/debater than a Brawler.

Not to mention I'm a doubles player.

I don't really have a secondary and would never consider one... but when i'm mucking around I just use massive characters.

My favourites (excluding ganondorf) are...

Donkey Kong
Charizard (only charizard, **** fatigue)
Bowser
King D3

Straight massive, powerful characters

I'm happy that fatigue exists.
Or else I would main Charizard over Ganon... :\

I secondary Peach(c.pick against low height characters) and c.pick Samus against Falco.

I main Peach, and Ganon is my secondary. I am working to make Ganon a dual main (Whatever you wanna call it) ((Learning Pit))

I do fine against everything except Falco. :/

So I played a Snake, who just rolled. All day. And used Nikita and running attack.

I nearly got 3 stocked.

I'm picking up Falco or something.

What's the point of maining Ganon if you're going to have a secondary for bad Match-ups? I mean this is Ganon, the Match-Up King of Despair.

But in all seriousness, I believe that Wario would be one of the best secondaries for Ganon that isn't Meta Knight. He's still pretty heavy so you won't lose that feel when you're playing him. Having the advantage against Olimar, Sheik, and ICs is really helpful. IMO it will really just be D3 and Marth that will give you trouble with this combination.

It's not the bad matchups sir, it's for the extreme bad ones. The ones I bolded in the first post mainly.

You have to beat the opponent's reaction. This is where manipulation comes in. Against that kind of play, you've got to think to control the opponent, or the simplicity of their guessing game will mind**** you in the long run.

Looks like you need to practice B-reversal on Choke from a run, and shieldgrabbing Snake's dash attack. I think Ganon can shield grab a mortar slide in ideal conditions, but he definitely can grab the dash attack.

Nikita is garbz and you should **** that ****. I think Thunderstorming and spacing would have pwned everything.
In fact, I'm hoping you were joking.

You say mortar slide like he wasn't a total nub.

BTW, this was online. And it was MEGA laggy.

Also Final Destination. Lmao. I ***** on Battlefield.

I'm thinking on what Yelnats said, but the fact that Wario is one of my overall worst doesn't help me in those matchups a lot :urg:

You should have ***** on FD as well lol.
If it was mega laggy you shouldn't feel to bad, but still if he rolls really obvious and theyre's lag just warlock punch. I'm actually not kidding. IN lag that might actually work.

Rofl.

On the subject of secondaries, I realised GaW compliments Ganons worst MUs quite nicely. Not to mention he's as easy as piss to get good with. So I practice Ganon all day and occasionally crack out GaW. I also really like King DeDeDe. And I am using him. Edit: Why is DeDeDe so cute/manly?

I got to " you ban norfair " and stopped reading.

why the **** would you ban norfair if it's legal

that's rhetorical, please don't try to answer, unless MK or olimar is in your response

Of course I know it's legal, at least where I play, I meant you use your ban on Norfair. You know... you get to ban a stage once a set? I swear that is written down somewhere in the rules sir.

Norfair is a great stage for Ganon, if its legal you shouldn't ban it.
Except against MK maybe.

I use Sheik because she is a ninja. Who doesn't like Ninjas?

I'm also trying to learn Zelda so that if I ever come across good Ice Climbers I can go in there and ****. Huzzah.

Ganon's ability to move around Norfair is nearly unrivaled. Being able to use choke without much worry of falling to your doom, lava spiking, hitting through platforms...it's just awesome.

HAHAHA I don't think I've ever seen you use any of those characters more than a handful of times. Let's be honest sea, your secondary would either be wario or mk, you've used them the most apart from Ganon. However, I am pleased to say that you haven't used anyone except Ganon competitively in a number of months, which is very acceptable.

I can't say the same for myself though, my secondary is snake. I like him because he's probably the second manliest character after Ganon (which is still only about a millionth of Ganon's manliness) and he's also powerful and heavy. Also good to use against players who want to be ****s and camp you the whole match, because snake has legitimate anti-camping options.
