Firo, If
I were seriously considering purchasing a Gameshark (like if mine broke or I wanted to put lots of codes on there at once[manually inputting codes like Final Destination or Break the Targets isn't the most fun thing in the world, I'd know first-hand..]), I would DEFINITELY go with a Gameshark Pro 3.2 and higher either BRAND NEW or with a GUARANTEED WORKING L.E.D. startup/countdown timer and a Parallel Port (a common older printer connection) on the back.
The main reason being that (ONLY with such a Gameshark) you are able to manage many codes from your pc on said Gameshark's memory, many times faster than manually inputting them. The only "bad" part about this is needing a WinXP or Win98/2k/ME OS for the software to run properly
and a Parallel to Parallel cable, NOT Parallel to USB.
Here's a
TUTORIAL for setting up everything, and if for whatever reason you want to skip it altogether, here is a
LINK to the PC connection software.
It is possible to have a Gameshark v3.0 and 3.1 AND be able to upgrade them to 3.2/3.3 (for the sake of PC code management), but I haven't found the software to do so; it's gotta be on the internet somewhere...
Getting a Gameshark 3.0 and above would generally be your best bet as they are, AFAIK, compatible with the codes everyone has in their PJ64 cheat file; hence making life easier for finding compatible codes for your Gameshark. If I'm not mistaken, v1/2 Gamesharks (DIFFERENT from v3.1/3.2 and the v3 series) use different master codes or keycodes and therefore would require different codes altogether. Not sure on that one though, but safest bet is to stick with 3.0+ (PREFRENCE TOWARDS WORKING L.E.D. 3.2/3.3).
Good luck on finding a well priced Gameshark, hope this post helped a bit.
