Gameshark Cartridges

I'm looking to buy a Gameshark for my N64. Looking online however there are a few different Gameshark cartridge versions. What cart has the best compatibility with smash, and in general? What's the most recent version, and should I stick with that? What version does Project64k use?

Any Gameshark pros around to help me out?

i bought one at a used videogame store. i'm not sure which version it is, but i never got it to work with any of my games. IIRC they are notorious for being ****y, just a warning.

good luck

On the other hand, my friend blaze3927 has one that works great. Much better than paying like $100 for Mario Party or Paper Mario games on ebay. It's well worth however much it costs.

I'm not sure how frequently he visits this forum so you might like to PM him.

I don't think you realise how amazing Paper Mario is =P.

I tried playing it a few times on an emulator but save files kept crashing right near the end which made me mad as hell.

um only like the last version made works for all the ssb codes.... So you should prolly get that one. As for other games, you can pretty much use whichever gameshark you find on the street.

It doesn't list all the games, does it? I was looking for Superman 64 on that list and couldn't find it. I guess it's worthless :awesome:

Anyways, the price varies if it's NIB, cartridge alone, cartridge has defects (sticker is missing, dirty, writing on it), cartridge with box and manual etc.

It's there Ctrl + F superman and you'll find it for a dollar fourty eight, but no I don't think it has all the games. Those are just average prices as well, but I still feel if you pay more than that price you could of found it cheaper somewhere else.

ON TOPIC

gameshark i reccomend the standard n64 gameshark branded gameshark, version 3.2 and 3.3 both work fine for me with PAL and NTSC Smash
pretty sure pj64k uses i'tts own version, codes dont change between versons though s w/e

OFF Topic

Pal games are usually more expensive than ntsc ones, esp in aus.
a quick google search yeilds some pages of the more pricey n64 carts.

Firo, If I were seriously considering purchasing a Gameshark (like if mine broke or I wanted to put lots of codes on there at once[manually inputting codes like Final Destination or Break the Targets isn't the most fun thing in the world, I'd know first-hand..]), I would DEFINITELY go with a Gameshark Pro 3.2 and higher either BRAND NEW or with a GUARANTEED WORKING L.E.D. startup/countdown timer and a Parallel Port (a common older printer connection) on the back.

The main reason being that (ONLY with such a Gameshark) you are able to manage many codes from your pc on said Gameshark's memory, many times faster than manually inputting them. The only "bad" part about this is needing a WinXP or Win98/2k/ME OS for the software to run properly and a Parallel to Parallel cable, NOT Parallel to USB.

Here's a TUTORIAL for setting up everything, and if for whatever reason you want to skip it altogether, here is a LINK to the PC connection software.

It is possible to have a Gameshark v3.0 and 3.1 AND be able to upgrade them to 3.2/3.3 (for the sake of PC code management), but I haven't found the software to do so; it's gotta be on the internet somewhere...

Getting a Gameshark 3.0 and above would generally be your best bet as they are, AFAIK, compatible with the codes everyone has in their PJ64 cheat file; hence making life easier for finding compatible codes for your Gameshark. If I'm not mistaken, v1/2 Gamesharks (DIFFERENT from v3.1/3.2 and the v3 series) use different master codes or keycodes and therefore would require different codes altogether. Not sure on that one though, but safest bet is to stick with 3.0+ (PREFRENCE TOWARDS WORKING L.E.D. 3.2/3.3).

Good luck on finding a well priced Gameshark, hope this post helped a bit.

THANKS FOR THE SERVER FIRO <3 ;)

EDIT: JaimeHR was HACKING on the server! (jk lol)

FD Would work, but you need activators (Same for Pokemon Stadium and Dreamland without platforms)
