Does anyone have a friend that thinks they're a gamer but they're really not? I have a friend that thinks she's a gamer. One day she came over and she asked..."Can we play that one fighting game that has that one guy that has red hat with a mustache and that little pokemon thing?" She thinks that she is this huge hardcore gamer, but she really doesn't know the first thing about video games. Has anyone else had this scenario?

I've dealt with the same. As well as people who think they are a hacker because they can assemble a computer (completely different from a hacker) or some kind of expert because they read a book (one [1] book) about something.

I might be self righteous, but I admit my limitations.

LMAO! I AM that scenario. Especially when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. I always forget the character's names like a month after finishing the game.

Haha this girl I know thinks shes a gamer..

Conversation
Her: What you doing?
Me: Playing Assassin's Creed
Her: That game is sweet
Me: I prefer Mass Effect
Her: What kind game is that?

Or..

Her: You pay to play that game? (World of Warcraft)
Me: Yeah
Her: Isn't that a waste of money?
Me: $15 a month?
Her: Yeah why don't you go to the mall and play DDR or something?

Ok....... What the hell? $15 a month is about $.50 a day. She wants me to spend a DOLLAR to take the bus down to the mall. Then use a few QUARTERS for a few minutes of looking like a ****** in front of random people (Its a fun game but still). Then use another DOLLAR to take the bus back home.
Roughly $3 for maybe two hours spend trying to play DDR and getting back home.

and uh...

Her: Can you play that Metallica song on Guitar Hero 3 on medium?
Me: I haven't played that game in a long time, I might.
Her: Oh it took me like an hour of practicing to finish it.
*I turn on 360 and beat the song in one try*
Her: You did it!?
Me: Yeah, its not that hard. I didn't get a good score but still, I haven't played Guitar Hero in months.

Oh boy... I'm glad she stopped calling me..

That was an awesome story. She means Smash Brothers, with Mario and Pikachu, right? That's dang epic. I've had a similar scenerio once or twice, but not on that sort of level.

That's just as awesome as the other story. It's the GHIII one that got me good. I find it interesting that both cases had girls as the "hardcore" gamer. Heh, interesting.

She stopped calling you because you beat her in GHIII?
That's funny and weird at the same time. XD

Once my girlfriend moved in she became pretty much a gamer. She hated Warhawk until I got her to shoot a missile launcher and she killed someone. Now she loves Warhawk, PAiN, Rock Band, and a few other PSN games. Also, I got her hooked on Gametap so she is playing the Genesis games, which she loved as a kid, and the Sam and Max series. She even bought a controller for it. Next step: FPS and RTS.

She stopped calling me cause she went over her **** thousand minutes cause she called me so **** much she got her phone taken away.

And she messages me on Myspace and I just ignore it so she would shut the hell up.

I have a few friends which are girls that play stuff like.. Halo and Resident Evil.. :lick:

I must say I almost always hate these labels. I see too many hardcore gamers who label themselves as such and are elitist *******s. They ruin this industry by making fun of and looking down on people who aren't as game savvy as them.

I have a friend I consider a very casual gamer, but she's still a gamer, because guess what? She enjoys playing games.

Less on a ranting note: I do not know anyone who claims they are an awesome gamer only to be very lackluster. I dunno, maybe some people act that way so they feel like they can fit in? It sucks not to be a part of something someone you enjoy having around is. The last sentence was awful, but meh.
