I use the classic all the time and works perfectly and wreck with my mains. The melee-list is annoying and trying to fool people to not use any of the tons of controller options.

I have tested the Gamepad, 2DS, GameCube controller+adapter, and Wii U Pro controller and all I can say is that all controllers are viable options of playing this game with the possible exception of the 3DS/2DS simply because of how odd the Circle Pad feels when I play this game.

So imo all controllers are pretty good to use on this game and if you are reading this thread, base your choice on your personal preference.

Have a nice day!

3ds controller is FAR better than wiimote, IMO

I havent personally tested it out yet, but it seems the gamepad is getting lots of positive feedback. I kinda expected it, its basically a 3ds but with more responsive controls, cstick, and it feels overall more stable than the flimsy 3ds.

I like the gamepad.

Why do people think Wiimote + Nunchuck is bad

It can do literally everything the gamecube controller can do but easier

And some people hate the feel of the Wiimote + Nunchuck.

Although it's clear the OP of the thread never tried to use any of the other options.

Plain wiimote is limited.

And I had to turn the entire dpad into a jump button to be able to use the wiimote and nunchuck.

Not BAD, but Id take a gamepad or 3ds or GC controller any day over it.

It needs the right control scheme to be good. The dpad should be set to smashes, C and Z on the nunchuck for jump and shield , 1 for grab. It takes getting used to but you barely even have to move your fingers to play, makes stuff like c-stick aerials stupidly easy

I really don't recommend it. Maybe my copy is defected but every time I plug in the GC controller, the controls goes haywire constantly opening the Home menu or pressing random buttons. I have to press the "Turbo" button many times in order for it to get fixed temporary. Worst part is that whenever you leave it idle, the Wiimote will naturally turn off, so once you turn it back on, the adapter acts all crazy again. It's so tedious.

And it does not seem to want to work with the Wavebird either.
I can corroborate this claim.

Turbo always flys off the hook randomly or when the adapter is shook or moved, the inputs go ham when plugged in...all the stuff you mentioned. Took the thing apart in an attempt to finally fix it but no dice. Ended up trashing it. Was done dealing with that nonsense.

I just found out yesterday on why it would not work. It's not the adapter, but rather the newer Wiimote pluses. The ones from 2011 onward has this annoying lock that prevents you to be using it for various third party stuff such as using Dolphin, connecting unofficial stuff or play it on a tablet/phone device.

The solution is to use an older Wiimote or Wiimote Plus. Interesting enough the Zelda Wiimote Plus does not have this, so it may theoretically work too.

I'm using my old white Wiimote and it's working great now. It still has some flaws though. They really need to warn us about this issue on their product page. It's hard to fault anyone for not knowing this. I only found it out via a comment on an amazon review. :/

Here's what a friend of mine found for Dolphin issues:
Unfortunately, shortly after the Wii Remote Pluses came out, a new Wii Remote Plus type appeared. Whereas the standard Wii Remotes and the very first Wii Remote Pluses register as RVL-CNT-01, the new Wiimotes register as RVL-CNT-01-TR. What exactly changed is unknown, but all -TR Wii Remotes do not work with Dolphin by default. Since all Wii Remotes for sale in stores since 2011 are -TR Wiimotes, this has become a growing problem.
This should apply to the adapter as well.

I also love being able to use the Gamecube controller again but, Wii U Pro and Gamepad are still really good.

All I have is a Wii Remote+nunchuk and the gamepad, and I despise both of them. I really need to find a GC adapter :/

Frankly, the CC is way better than the GCC anyway. Please get over yourself.

"my opinion is right and your opinion is wrong, get over yourself"

no sir, you get over yourself. This is some bull**** we're dealing with. So happy your option works for you. Not all of us have CCs to begin with. And not all of us want to spend money on a CC when we're far more comfortable with a GCC when that stands to be an option.

The best controller is the one each person likes the best. That's why Nintendo gives us to many different options to play Smash 4 by. With what controller a person plays Smash 4 matters not. What matters is that they are playing Smash at all.

This is not Henry Ford's vision of utopia where every car is black. Nintendo gave us choice. Whether you like it or not.

What a selfish thing to say. Everyone is unique and are adapted to things in different ways. We are not you, why don't you get over yourself and not act like a ****? (This goes for half of the thread too)

Personally I think the CC is not a very good controller for Smash. I can play it with the GamePad and Wiimote sideways, but CC gives me so many issues for some reason. It's just not very comfortable to me. Should I tell you that you are wrong for liking the CC for Smash?
