Open question: is it possible to play with the Switch GC controller with the adapter (the new one that came out earlier this moth) plugged into the Switch being in portable mode? I really wanna know, as I'm heavily considering purchasing the GC controller because I may be switching from the Wii U Pro controller (which I played Sm4sh with). My main issue is that since I can't afford buying the Power A GC controller in addition, I may or may not be unable to play with the wired GC controller on the go. Also, is it hard adapting to the GC controller if you're used to the Wii U Pro (I've never played with one)?

All you need is a dongle that allows you to convert your gc controller adapter's usb into a usb c. I've seen demonstration and videos of it already so I think its confirmed working for undocked. I don't know whether or not it'll allow 2+ players though. That'll be sweet to have smash on the go.

Based on this video alone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AZW9wQRKa4 I have no doubts that it'll support 4 gc controllers undocked.

Ok thanks a lot! I just have another question: do you know if there's a risk that USB Type-A and Type-C adapters as well as the USB hub (all three of which were shown in the video) might brick the Switch?

I would say no because you're in no way using it to provide power to the switch; rather, you're using it to draw power (and very minimal too). I would NOT buy any third party accessories that provide the switch power such as adapters or docks.
