GameCube Controller Mod (Help Needed!)

A secret bunker in an undisclosed location...
Hey guys! I plan modding a GameCube controller for use in Smash. I know that I can replace the thumb sticks in the controller with those that are in a Dual-shock controller... However are there any other controllers that I can use to replace the other buttons on the controller? (I am focusing mainly on the d-pad, help with bumper replacements would be appreciated 2 though.) Could you possibly use a wiimote or Dual-shock D-pad as replacement... or are will they not fit in the remote?
