For those wondering, this monstrous beast of a fish is indeed from Nintendo's Joust-like battling game, Balloon Fight.

...I'm curious now, that one of Balloon Fight's characters has been made into a large rendered element... add to that rumors that Balloon Fighter himself was originally going to be in Melee at one point and... hmm..

For comparison's sake:

personally, i think this significantly lowers Balloon Fighter's chances of being playable. otherwise, the fish would appear on his stage, not the ice climbers'.

Not necessarily.

Don't forget, The Balloon Fighter's music was also an alternate track for the Ice Climbers stage in Melee.

It may be possible that this stage incorporates several other old school elements...

Also keep in mind the Balloon Fight stages are all suspended over the sea where these beastly fish live... perhaps, it would seem, the old-school characters live in the same 'world' ;)

balloon fighter to be WTF character of BRAWL XD

I'd gladly play as him.

I envision him as a character whose attack strength and recovery abilities are altered by the damage he takes. Hit him enough, a balloon pops. His recovery and number of aerial jumps decreases, BUT his attack strength INCREASES. However, without balloons he's kind of screwed in terms of recovery, but has great attack. His Down B special would be a Balloon Reinflation ^_^

But is that resonable to assume they share the smae map? I mean why would BF's symbol be a eggplant? BF hardly had a shot to begin with, why does everyone go so wild with these rumors?

Woah woah woah, why would you assume he hardly had a shot to begin with?

If any Nintendo character warrants a unique manner of play, it's definitely Balloon Fighter.

I'm just saying that elements from one world might show up in another. Since the world of Balloon Fighter is suspended over the sea, it may be the same sea the Summit crashes into. Since a sea never appeared in Ice Climber, it's a good excuse to nudge worlds together.

After all, we've got Goombas and Hammer Bros. invading Donkey Kong's world, and Petey Pirahna kidnapping Zelda...

And you're going to draw the line at the fish from Balloon Fight? o-o

They aren't on their stage though

Interesting - the only time I've ever played anything to do with Balloon Fighter was on WarioWare, heh.

Something that has me curious is to why Mr. Sakurai seems to like lumping Ice Climber and Balloon Fight together, or at the very least crossing elements Balloon Fight over into the Ice Climber stages. Do you know if there's any relationship between the two games (aside from being on the NES around the same time) that could be reason for this?

I've played both, and I have a lot more fun with Balloon Fighter.

Especially multiplayer, that's an amazing game for Co-Op.

What makes you think that every character in Brawl will get their own stage? And how would a stage based on Ballon Fighter work in Brawl? It doesn't lower his chances much at all.

The Balloon Fighter's basic stage is pretty much a prefect brawl arena, actually. It's like Yoshi's Island, but with a hole in the middle.

And you can have the flying penguin bird things, too.

Hm.

Well, Ice Climber and Balloon Fight were two of Nintendo's first Two-Player simultaneous-play games. Most other games at the time usually made one player wait while the other play took their turn, and then they'd variate.

But in both Ice Climber AND Balloon Fight, you could compete AND cooperate at the same time. For example, in Ice Climber you could bounce off your friend's head to get a better jump. While in Balloon Fight you'd get a higher score by hogging all the 'kills' for yourself... plus popping your friend's balloons is always good fun.

Both games also featured quite a bit of music, and a similar play mechanic. A main stage area, and a bonus round of some sort. You'd also get scored for smaller things, like popping bubbles, hitting birds, etc.

Also, both games feature a 'running late' feature, that would make stages more dangerous if you took longer. In Ice Climber it's the polar bear, shoving the stage around and causing you to die if you're down too low. In Balloon Fight it's the electric storm, sending one-hit kill sparks flying around the stage.

I think the same group may have made both games, also...

But suffice to say, they're both very fun.

Balloon Fighter has a small chance, but his franchise wouldn't be represented that well...
