Funny Thing when I recovered

So I was recovering, he edgehogged and I up+b'd into a special fall and the rest of my pikmin chain was just chilling starting to fall too. However, WHILE I was in special fall my body/pikmin somehow attacked and stagespiked the diddy holding the edge. So I died and he died too but somehow my pikmin in special fall hit him haha. I have it on replay if anyone wants me to send it to them to be recorded.

This isn't the normal hitting them with Up+b at the start and still dying. This was me up+bing, falling for a second or two, and as i fell through him he got hit and died.

I've done this twice, ironically both times against a diddy, though i don't think diddy has anything to do with it. I think what it is is that the hitbox on the tether stays out for a long time, maybe longer when it is trying to connect to a ledge and fails. when the diddy edgeguarded you, it didn't kill him right away because he had his invincibility frames still, but once they wore off, he got stagespiked.

Thats what I was thinking to, but this seems to be like literally almost a second after I did the tether and entered special fall. I'll try and get the replay up tomorrow

yeah, it has weird properties like that, it stays out FOREVER. the reason this doesn't happen more is because usually people will hit L to roll back onto the stage instead of waiting until olimar dies.
