I don't know what to say about it. It sucks. We both don't really know any advanced techs at the time...


He came over a few days ago and we decided we wanted to work on a few things. I show him a few videos of falco's doing the SHL and Pillaring. Well he didn't want to figure out pillaring yet so he stuck to the SHL. As for me I'm trying to get shffling sex kicks and fairs down, teching, I also know of a few spots I could throw in WDing just to work it in. I'm also practicing ledgehopping something other than a fair, but never got the opportunity to do anything.

A lot of this is us just trying to get a feel for how these advanced techs work in real play instead of practice, and this is our first match actually putting them to use. Any comments for both of us would be greatly apreciated...

My advice would be to work on shffling, once he gets that down, he should be okay.

he should work on wavedashing (both of you really) i personally dont wavedash unless im playing against fox/ peach/ marth and that's it. but he should work on his shl. shffl. shs. basically anything you can do with short hoping. and he should stop doing the falco phantasm too much. i hope he realizes that while falco is in the air, and he does his falco phantasm (or whatever it's called) he can kill himself b/c he goes further than he do when he is on land. and another bad thing that i (saw <-> was) that he rolled entirely to much. he would attack then roll, and copy and repeat. he should definetly watch vids on youtube and practice incorporating those moves in his playing style.

You guys are both obviously very new to serious Smash. If improving is something you're serious about, you need to start at the ground and work up.

SHL is a good starter move for someone wanting to learn advanced Falco techniques, so you guys have the right idea.

Make sure you guys work fast falling into your games, though. Both of you are going to need it, as it's a pretty neccessary tool to high level play.

yeah everyone summed everything up... just practice and push your self..... Start wit the shl and than drilling to a l cancel... after u master those two things start to work your way up....It will take sum time though so just pratice and push yourself to the max

Yeah you guys are obviously very new to the field of advanced techniques, it takes determination so try to stick through with it, it's very rewarding.

Here's the steps to learning the SHL

1) Learn how to short hop, then laser in place (Seems like you have that down)

2) Learn how to move while doing a short hop laser (This involves a "flicking motion of the control stick, flick forward for the DI, let go, and then push B. Make sure you get the feel for this down because mobile short hop lasers are extremely key to falcos game)

3) Fastfall the short hop laser (Short Hop Laser has it's own rhtym (sp?), right now for you it's just Short Hop - B, Short Hop - B. Once you learn mobility with the laser it'll be Short Hop - Flick - B. The next step adds another beat to the rhytm(sp?), Short Hop - Flick - B - Fastfall. At first I thought Short Hop Lasering was about pushing the buttons as fast as I could, but the most important key is being precise. This is something that one can't really explain but you have to get the feeling for yourself. Test yourself by seeing if you can hit a crouching shiek, can you hit the crouching shiek while moving)

Try getting this down, once you get that you can move onto bigger and better things ^^.
