Freezing on character select

Hi, I have the ProjectM 2.6 and have been loading it up through the CFG USB Loader to play it. Now I never had a problem with the mod until about v2.0. On the character select screen, there is a blank box where the pokemon trainer should be, and whenever the cursor goes over it, the game will completely lock up and go "BEEEEP". This also happens when I select a stage, which renders the game completely unplayable. Hopefully you guys can help me with this, I've replaced the files on the SD card, formatted the save on the SSBB game, so I'm not sure what else to do.
