Just pratice, lol. If you use the analog stick push it in a soft flickin motion. If you use x/y slide off the button. (2 of my easiest ways) Just pratice, its all you can do. Pratiiiiice.

exactly what laserbust said. try to slide your thumb off of the x/y i like to use the very tip of my thumb near my finger nail and just give it a little flick downwards and hurray its a short hop.

I like how your name is foxmaster and yet you're asking for our help with Fox.

Just kidding though.

a lot of people seem to have trouble with the short hop, i have to say its one of the few techniques that ive never had any trouble with. The trick for me is sliding your thumb of the end of the x button. Its really simple... if you cant sh well you cant do a lot of things with fox. Its very important with fox and falco.

i just slide my thumb off the bottom of the x button. sometimes. depends on what i'm doing. sometimes i slide my thumb off y in the direction of b. sometimes i just tap up on the control stick quickly. sometimes i tap up on c very quickly while i'm shielding.

just make sure you know that it's about button press speed, not sensitivity. once you press the button/ stick, you have jump time - 1 frames to let go of button/ stick. so for fox, the button/ stick must be active for no more than 3 frames. actually it needs to be released before the 3rd frame, so it can sense the release on frame 3.

That doesn't make sense, just so you know.

Anyway, what you can do, is tap with the second section(boney part) of your thumb. It's a good start, or at least I think so.

And obligatory lawl foxmaster my buzzum post.
