The holiday season is fast approaching, and per tradition it's time for SWF's annual Forum Awards. For the many people who have joined since last year's ceremonies, Forum Awards are a chance for us to recognize some of the most notable members around the boards, in all sorts of different categories.

Voting takes place in two parts: a nomination period, where users write in the users they think should be nominated for a certain award, and the final voting period, where the top three votegetters in each category are put up against each other. As usual, we'll be having awards for all members, moderators, and even for rooms and categories.

Here's the preliminary (subject to change) timetable for this year's awards. Note that "end" dates specify the last day of voting--the voting booth closes at 11:59 PM EST:

Category Suggestions: now through November 24
Categories Posted: November 25-27ish
Nominee Voting Begins: December 1
Nominee Voting Ends: December 16
Nominees Posted/Campaigning Starts: by December 18
Final Voting Begins: December 22
Final Voting Ends: January 4
Winners Posted: January 5

Per the timetable, category suggestions are now being taken. Feel free to browse old Forum Awards threads or category nomination threads for ideas. Check the category suggestion thread in the Announcements Discussion room, and if you have any questions about any of this, feel free to send me a PM.

Here (after a little delay) are this year's official categories:

I. Member Awards (20) (any registered member)

1. Forum Monkey - a forum monkey is someone goofy who is on all the time, loves to have fun, and is funny
2. Best Signature - Self Explanatory
3. Best Forum Name - Person with the best forum username (coolest, most creative, etc....)
4. Best Location - Self Explanatory
5. Most Respected n00b - best/most respected new member
6. Most Improved - Person who has improved the most as a poster (from 2006-2007)
7. Friendliest Member - Self Explanatory
8. Most Intelligent - Self Explanatory
9. Most Helpful - Person who is always helping users find their way around
10. Most Fearsome - member most likely to lash out at you for looking at them the wrong way
11. Most Sarcastic - Self Explanatory
12. Dr. Smash - knows everything about Smash
13. Smash Practitioner - Smasher who has most influenced the metagame/Smash scene
14. Best Cinematographer - Smasher who has put together the best videos
15. Host with the Most - host who has done the most for the tournament scene
16. Master Debater - Self Explanatory
17. Best Forum Gamer - best player of the Forum Games room
18. Best Artist - most skilled in the visual arts (includes traditional and computer art)
19. Best Writer - most skilled in the literary arts (includes stories, poems, ASCII art (not really))
20. Most Valuable - the user who has most helped the community

II. Moderator Awards (3) (any forum leader: moderator, super moderator, senator, administrator)

1. Sexiest Mod - ya... check this topic for comparisons
2. Most Gregarious - The most sociable forum leader: this person is easy to talk to and is approachable; he/she is very people-oriented and deals well with people over AIM etc...
3. Most Omnipresent - The forum leader who always seems to be around and doing his/her job

III. Room/Category Awards (4)

1. Favorite Hangout - Your favorite room to chill at SWF
2. Most Insightful Room - The room from which you glean the most insight
3. Most Notorious for Spam - The room that's... full of spam
4. Favorite Category - the category that contains most of your favorite rooms

IV. Special Awards (1)

1. Prestigious Award - Voted on by the Forum Leader crew, this person has been an excellent poster and helper at SWF. He/she is very dedicated and is constantly offering his/her services to better SWF. This person must be agreeable and has given up a lot of their spare time to help Smash World. Previous winners include Kirby King, McFox, Zootematix, Giygas, and Amorasaki.

Because of the delay, I've adjusted the timetable slightly:

Nominee Voting Begins: December 6
Nominee Voting Ends: December 19
Nominees Posted/Campaigning Starts: December 20
Final Voting Begins: December 22
Final Voting Ends: January 4
Winners Posted: January 5

As you can tell, the nomination period will last for two solid weeks, with nominations starting this Thursday and ending at 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday, December 19th. You can vote at any point during that time, but you won't be able to change your votes once they're cast. If you have any problems using the nomination booth, please send me a PM to let me know.

If you tried to vote before around 2:15 this afternoon (EST), you may have had issues nominating certain forum leaders for the forum leader only awards. This should be fixed now, but if you were unable to cast your vote for a forum leader because it was rejected and instead voted for someone else, please PM me with your new vote. If you have not yet voted (or did not encounter this error), then you don't have to worry about this, but please let me know if you can't vote for a certain forum leader.
